Remember Brandin Podziemski?

I was on this site pinning for UK to get Podziemski both times he was available: first out of high school and then when he transferred from IL. I thought Coleman's connection might be able to land him at UK, but I could never really get a sense for how much effort UK really put into recruiting him.

PODZIEMSKI AND THE NBA Going into the NBA Draft Combine in Chicago last week, Podziemski was widely projected as a mid-second round pick, with ESPN slotting him at No. 37 overall, The Sporting News projecting him as the No. 43 player in the draft, and The Athletic placing him at No. 47 in its mock draft. Based on his showing there, that stock remains on the rise. The Bleacher Report included Podziemski as one of the biggest gainers out of combine week. ESPN bumped him up to No. 31 following his time in Chicago, and Podziemski told the Herald-Leader that after his first performance — 10 points, eight rebounds and eight assists with zero turnovers in a do-it-all effort — his agents were hearing that the middle of the first round was a realistic draft zone. It didn’t hurt that his measurements backed up his listed height, he buried 18 of 25 threes in the organized shooting drill, and he showed off a 39-inch maximum vertical leap, tied for sixth-best among the combine invitees. That last number, in particular, raised eyebrows.

If I were Cal, I'd be making sure both Sheppard and Hart are made to feel like they are really loved. Be nice to keep those two around for multiple years.
Calipari needs to focus on getting these types of players more than market value from NIL. Every year they remain at UK could be a 50% increase in their NIL money. Incentivize player retention.

Cal's presently double-minded in his rationale. He brags about the $4 billion in earnings his guys will have had in a few years, and he's all "about these kids" getting their slice of the pie; but when it comes to NIL, he's a miser in that he doesn't believe in "pay for play?"

Seems overtly contradictory.

Only if he sticks it out with UK. Juzang ended up flourishing once he was out of here. Same for Matthews and Wiltjer.
That says it all. Once they got some real coaching with set plays they flourished. They could have played under ccc for entire career and not done as well

Difference between offering and pursuing

Look, you can argue semantics all you want. I'm not interested in that nonsense. But to say Cal wasn't interested when we literally offered him a scholarship is some special needs stuff.

Ccc was one of the last to offer. How impressive is that? He is nothing more than a used car salesman that can not tell the truth. Believe him all you want, he has destroyed the UK program

Believe him about what? Nothing you said has anything to do with what I said.

Looks like he should’ve played more his freshman year at Illinois.

On every level guys develop with time and opportunity. The younger the players are the more you're going to see players supposedly "coming out of nowhere." I'm thinking it might be better to try to pluck some of these types of players out of the portal, rather than trying to identify them and bring them in from high school. For one, they get the needed playing time at for instance a mid-major. Also they get that one-time transfer out of the way.

In their second year, OAD is designed to push them down the bench or out the door. Cal is good enough to "let them choose". Swell guy.

Ccc offered but never put any effort into the recruitment
Just like I said
Take off your blue glasses and see what is actually going on
