Regional host

Will be interesting to see how UK approaches the weekend pitching wise. Ball St’s Friday night guy has had a really good season. I would think UK would go with Lee or Williams in the opener.

Gotta go with Williams in my opinion. Then I'd be good with Smith and trying Lee in game 3 hopefully to take the regional.

I think I would go with Williams also. Have to win game 1. Would still have Lee, Smith and Strickland who could still start games 2,3 and 4 if necessary

Williams has the "best" mindset. He's the leader. Let him set the tone. But really, starters are less the concern. When Dub gives you 6, where do you turn in a close one? Pen feels a bit shaky and unreliable right now.

Williams gets hit pretty hard 2nd time through but probably would go with him. Have I missed something on Bosma? Don’t think he has pitched in 2 weeks.

He didn't pitch against Florida. Then we only played one other game. Not sure if he needed a bit of rest or they wanted someone else because he's been struggling a bit.

If they go into the losers bracket early I could see Bosma possibly being used. His ERA over his last 6 starts was 8.05 so I don’t think he will be one of their top options as a starter this weekend

Bullpen is definitely a concern. Moore has been excellent and Byers has been good, after that it gets dicey.

So I dont know if I got lucky or there was a glitch in the matrix. I logged on to the ticket website at 8:50 and was able to get two tickets before 9. Got the confirmation and they showed up in my Ticketmaster app.

This is where I’m at as well. Was good to see Chavez throw a somewhat clean inning against Alabama. Really feels like he and Hagenow are going to have to step up and return to their March levels of production.

The inconsistency will always be a concern, but I thought Cotto was really sharp in the 9th against Alabama. I’ve been enamored with his stuff since he arrived in Lexington. Against non-SEC competition I think he is a viable option late in close games if you start to get short.

I logged in right at 9:00 and there were only a handful of reserved seats left. There are still general admission tickets available. I just got a recorded message from Mingione encouraging Cats fans to buy tickets. Probably not necessary since it will likely be a sellout.

We need to score at least 4 against Ball St. our pitching can surely hold ‘em to 3 or less.

That is what has been most impressive about the pitching staff to some degree, for the large part they have been consistent. There have been some drops here and there, and that is expected, but for the more part we get pretty solid outings from most of the staff. Then the coaching staff has been willing to make some changes when we see that guys are struggling a bit. Unfortunately some of those struggles have flared up a bit more recently, but that might be more of a product of our competition as opposed to how they've actually done.

Agreed

They are college players, not in the MLB. They should be happy they get their own room. The guy calling it a "federal prison cell"....yeessshhhh

I mean, I guess it sucks they might not have a tv in the room, but most of them probably have plenty of alternatives they can turn to.

$100 for each room.
I guess the standard would a hotel or an apartment style dorm-

Apartment style dorm I hear would mean UK didn’t net profits from $ on room.

UK charging for the teams to use these is absolutely ridiculous. Still, that's not the main source of people being upset.

I think people are laregly complaining as a means to create an excuse as to why their team(s) should have hosted and UK shouldn't have. Seems like whining to me.

those dorms are nicer than most of the hotel rooms in Lexington. The Hyatt and Hilton downtown aren't anything special room wise unless you're dropping a ton of money on suites.

-Excited to go to the games this weekend, hope that we get record crowds.

-Most of the "expert" publications are predicting WVU. I'm a bit surprised but UK has been mostly a paper tiger so hopefully we can prove the naysayers wrong.

-UK looks very bush league over this hotel / dorm deal. I know there are a lot of outside factors in play, but just looks like we are not ready for prime time.

-I'd start Lee tomorrow if It were up to me.

Agree, this is a bad look for our athletic dept. we could have certainly found a way to go above and beyond in the dorm situation. Instead we are allowing some WVU media to control the national narrative. Several are praising the WVU AD for getting involved quickly last night and having multiple A/C issues and mattress coverings addressed (embarrassing). Whether that is true or not , who knows, probably is.

Did notice that the Ball State coach is taking the high road, good for him.

Fans are throwing the “SEC” narrative in our face , as they should have. If we want to be elite, act like it!

Lastly, this SHOULD have been completely avoided if our AD was not asleep at the wheel!
You had to know those mid dorms that we offered would be posted to social media immediately. Huge missed opportunity, not surprising. I take a lot of pride in my school and I support financially, physically, and verbally as much as possible.

Bunk beds are nothing to be happy about

They aren't bunk beds. They are twin extra long. They can be bunked but that was taken down.

In my eyes the only 'bad' part of this is that the AC wasn't on when the team arrived. Given that they're empty dorms during the summer, that makes sense but they should have planned to get that turned on in time.

Did UK add any temporary seating to KPP for the regional? I remember when KPP was built they discussed that as an option for when they host.

Doesn't look like it but haven't seen a full picture of the outfield. Just saw a glimpse and looked like people were just standing at the rail in left.

I can't see any on TV either. I thought they might put bleachers over the concrete terraces/steps to increase capacity.

These dorms are much nicer than the dorms that UK had when I was a student from 74-78. Some of them weren't even air conditioned. All of the dorms from my era have been torn down and replaced with much nicer ones.
