Is the stupidest thing the state has ever done and that’s saying something. I live in the Louisville area and have to travel to other cities to get anything done. I wish KY had a DOGE office to audit these clowns.
Damn it was easy in Indiana. I renewed online
The Ky website blames it on the fed for the transition. Indiana has 93 counties and 125 BMV locations to get it done.
It’s not adding more offices, it’s going back to the offices that already exist and having them do the work againYea, let's spend more state money on more drivers' license offices. What a great idea.
I live in Buckner, in Oldham County. So naturally going to Louisville makes sense. Nope, it takes forever to get an appointment and even if you get an appointment, it could take 5 hours. I’ve been traveling to Bellevue, Independence and Frankfort to get stuff done in a more timely fashion. I probably won’t go back to Independence however.Impeccable timing for this thread. I spent almost 2 hours waiting in line to get my license renewed at a regional office yesterday.
I'm lucky that I have two regional offices close to me in Covington and Bellevue, however. The locations are convenient for me but the processing load for each is not.

The Independence office was a zoo the one time I went there. There were at least 20 people seated in chairs with a line out the door.I live in Buckner, in Oldham County. Sounds awesomeI live in Madison County. I had my license renewed at the new office in the Richmond mall. I was expecting a big hassle, and a big wait. When I went in there were a bunch of people in line, but they have their act together there because I was in and out in @ 20 minutes. No complaints here, but I imagine I probably would had they moved ours to Lexington.
It appears that they won't be happy until we are standing in blocks long lines downtown again.....It was too convenient previously......I mailed my last renew.......I have to go in person the next time. The whole process is a rat race. and lacks any organization whatsoever.
Put it back in the Circuit Court Clerk's office, use X number of satellite
offices depending on population served.
I felt terrible for the workers there, because I guess if you get in the queue, you're guaranteed to be seen that day, which means those clerks are working WAY past 4:00 which is when it is supposed to close. Now, I get it; governments worker and what not, but still...I just renewed my license yesterday and after scanning the qr code and getting 12 on the wait list. I went back home 20 minutes away. Watching it move a spot a hour I thought for sure I would get the ha ha at closing time. It took 5 hours but it was definitely crazy seeing all the people needing help in person. Was 100 people there and I scanned in at 9 am. Passed the eye test in 30 seconds and payed for the renewal. License will be mailed to me in 30 days it says. I give the experience a 2 out of 10.
Good griefI had to go renew my license last week. Granted, I didn't sign up for an appointment, and I got there at 1:00 pm (the one off Iron Works) BUT
It took 4 hours and 45 minutes.
For walkups, you go in the front door, scan a QR Code, fill in the information and register. It gives you a number and puts you in the queue. Then you go back to your car and wait for a text to tell you to come inside.
