Reeves signs deal with Pelicans

I think 100% of this kind of contract is guaranteed. This is why NFL players are always talking about NBA contracts.

Now, the real question is how much of the $5mil contract will actually go in Reeves pocket? He’ll be out 50% of it right off the top to taxes and probably 3% to his agent. But a 2nd round pick getting a guaranteed 3 year contract this early is excellent for Reeves. Hope he gets a few more contracts. He improved every year and is poster child for how to improve your game each year.
Some players have fully guaranteed, but it's usually not until the second contract. The first-round rookies typically have the first two years of a 4-year contract fully guaranteed. Victor Wembanyama and Reed Sheppard both have these kinds of guarantees (about $20-25 million). Reeves only has the first year fully guaranteed, and then he has to meet vesting deadlines.

Bronny James, on the other hand, has guaranteed money through the third year. He was drafted later than Reeves, but sometimes your agent or other connections can you get you a better guarantee. Chris Livingston has a better guarantee than Reeves, and he was the last pick of the draft. The difference is that Livingston's agent (and Bronny's) is Rich Paul.

$5 million is nice...but remember:
...Agent $$
...Uncle Sam $$
...No guarantee it will go beyond 3 years
...If he's injured, he has to find employment
...etc.

It sounds like a lot, but it's not if you're talking about "the rest of your life".
