Reed is Forgiven in My Eyes

Well you might recall both of his parents played at UK and I think he did too if I recall.
Exactly- this is not some average KY homegrown basketball player but someone who had both of his parents play at UK, a little different than 99% of other people- he should have been a KY fan 100% of the time and not a Cal/Arkansas fan- he lost me when he did that

Can't lose to Oakland AND wear an Arkansas shirt. Don't care how great his regular season was. His UK legacy is on par with Sacha Killeya Jones at this point.
Oh, so a person that plays basketball at UK has no rights to wear anything else other than UK. Makes sense. Lets put that out there. You do not wear UK tee shirt or jersey and you no longer are allowed in the state you were born.

I have been to UK games wearing LSU gear along with UK gear. I have LSU hats, shirts, shirts, shoes along with all the UK stuff. Does not make me any less a UK fan, does not make me any less a KENTUCKY FAN.

This crappy kinda thought process is just plain ignorant. So if UK beats Oakland it would be OK to wear the Arkansas stuff? Or a kid (he is still a kid), cannot represent his coach (you know they guy that coached him) and wear support for his current team as well. I mean did he wear it during a UK vs Arkansas game? Did he denounce KENTUCKY.? Did he say TM2013 sucks? Did he piss in your cereal so something.

I have not seen one highlight of his NBA career, have not cared what he has done since he left UK. Could not care less.

How about this, did you go down to London/Somerset area and help anyone?

Leave the kid alone. If you do not like him fine. If you do not like him because he wore Arkansas gear after his UK career then get a better argument.

He could perform CPR on my dying child and save their live and he'll always be Razorback Reed to me.

That is cool. I do not care about fan hate. But in a post about him going to his hometown and helping out is just a little bad form to me. That is all.

Like I said, once the guys leave UK, I do not follow anything they do. They could play here and be like Rex (talking bad about UK), Wenyan G, hating on UK. I do not care. Each of us have our own lives to live.

Reed and Pope decided to spend some of their time helping others. I have done the same in the past. My body no longer allows for it. The last time I helped after a natural disaster was the floods in Eastern KY a few years back. Will probably be the last time I do that kind of thing. Heart is willing but the body no longer can do.

Really don't understand why anyone cares that much about him supporting his college coach.
Yeah. I mean, not shocking there was some blow back, but some folks took that personal, and to a significant extent. Didn’t bother me. He is clearly Blue through and through - that’s not really debatable and if your argument to the contrary consists solely of a tshirt, you have no argument. And I doubt he was just supporting Calipari - Z, Thiero and Wagner are guys he spent a lot of time with. In the end, to each his own.

I can love Reed for being a Kentuckian, playing for UK, and helping out our community during a time of need, while also thinking that wearing Arkansas gear on the day we played them was a dumb look and gave unnecessary fan war "ammunition" to loud mouth Hog fans and other rivals for them to use against the team he played for and against our new coach who was teammates and friends with his father 🤷🏻‍♂️

At the end of the day I still root for his success in life.

Wearing the Arkansas shirt was a dumb thing to do. But I'm still cheering for Reed to do well. He didn't run all those suicides, lift all those weights and put up all those shots for Arkansas. He did it for us. We don't get mad when ex players lose a bet and have to wear another team's stuff. Calipari helped Reed become a millionaire overnight.

He isn't a "kid", he's a pro basketball player and an adult. He knew what he was doing when he pulled that stunt. His defense sucked when he was here, and he's one of the reasons we lost in the first round. Daddy Cal wasn't going to do any more than necessary to make sure Reed got drafted. And if he didn't have the money he has, he wouldn't be helping in London / Somerset, either. Being rich changes your perspective on a lot of things, and makes it a whole lot easier to relax and do things for pleasure in life.

I was way more outraged by his play against Oakland than the Arkansas gear he wore.

That's what my enduring memory of him at UK will be. Stayed a year and accomplished nothing. Disappeared in the biggest game of the season. Dime a dozen.

The way kids are raised today, he is a kid. He will be a kid till about 25 or so. I was working before 12 years old part time at a grocery store, working for my dad in his company, playing sports and school. I worked that way through school. At 18 I had a brand new pick up truck (small truck), and letter of intent to play college football on the dash, was heading home from job to check on my dad (late stages of cancer) at lunch instead of eating, 87 year old man in a buick roadmaster station wagon did not see my white truck and went through a stop sign and when he plowed into the drivers door, he did not stop but stepped on the gas harder put my truck against the curb, flipped it about 20 feet in the air. 5 surgeries later, I never played a down of college football. I went to work full time and such.

I have a child that has a Doctorate and married, a middle child working and has worked since in high school and my youngest that has migraine issues from concussions (football and wrestling) and he quit both sports before his sophomore season was up due to problems. He has not worked due to the migraine issues (cannot keep a job). He is 27 and I still consider him a kid. None of my kids had to do what I did as a youth. They do not have that same sense of urgency to work as hard as we did.

Do not agree with Reed feeling whatever towards Cal. Not a Cal person here. But it is on him to do whatever he feels right about and if he felt like wearing a Hog shirt, so be it. Not gonna hate on someone for wearing that kind of stuff. One of my kids went to UofL, had a UofL sticker along with my UK sticker on my vehicle at the time. I supported my kid. i have CMU (Central Michigan University) gear, that is where my oldest got their Doctorate.

One other thing. Jeff and Stacy had money before Reed went to NBA and has supported the local community in London for years. Reed would have helped if he was homeless. I love how you put your own self into what Reed would or would not do. That is the only thing you must be doing here. Or maybe you lived next door to the guy, maybe you know about his inner self and know he is a lowlife that hates KENTUCKY. This post of your is plain dumb. Putting something on someone that is helping their community. It is just in poor taste.

I will try not to get wrapped up in what an x-UK player wears. Be it UK gear, or other gear. But that young man is a KID.

He supported his coach, it was no big deal. The thing that gets lost in the shuffle is that if anyone could be upset at Cal for bringing him off the bench and limiting his minutes it would be Reed. He still supports Cal, so obviously his experience at Kenutkcy with Cal wasn't that bad.
What I think really gets lost in the shuffle is that it’s fine to support your old coach at his new school. It’s the whole why did he have to do it on the same day that his old coach was playing the school he played a season at , his Dad won 2 National Championships at, and His Mom is in the record books on the Woman’s team ( she’s top 10 on quite a few women’s records)

I mean that boy probably has more UK blood running through him than any of us and he chose to wear that hog shirt!!!! Love that he’s helping his community though!

I know right....it was a friggin t-shirt!!!!!!!!! some of ya'll got your panties twisted when you saw it. The kid is a Kentucky Boy. He loved his coach. Nothing wrong with that one bit.
Yea. Like I get the initial confusion/disappointment by it, but good lord. It’s not that big of a deal.

Some just have no other form of joy in their life aside from UK basketball. It’s kinda sad really.

I never had anything to forgive.

Didn’t bother me at all. I didn’t disown Wayne Turner and McCarty for being on Louisville’s staff under Pitino. They didn’t take the UK games off. They were loyal to their coach.

It didn’t shock me Reed showed an inkling of loyalty to Cal.

And all you've done is cry about other calling you out. Have a good one because you sound like you need it.
I haven’t cried , I called your bs out Cal boy. We all know you are a nut hugger at heart whether you change your name or not, can’t change those stripes.

Good Lord.

Found the guy who takes college kids throwing a ball through a hoop entirely too seriously as what I presume to be a grown adult.

I'm 78-years-old and to my dying breath I'll never forgive the f'n traitor that Razorback Reed is.

I've actually got in my will that when I pass my body will be injected with a blue dye solution so that way they can literally say that I was buried with blue in my veins. That's how big a fan I am.

I'll be the first person that has ever done that so you'll probably read about it in the news when it happens.

But what about you? You'll probably just die like a regular ole nerd. Loser.

Yes I did. I will be wearing UK world series 2024 shirt this week and an LSU hat. LSU was the first team to reach out to me in high school. I have liked them ever since. Have never pulled from them against UK but till Wade was coach I pulled for LSU behind UK. I do not go out of my way to watch LSU play games or anything like that but they have a place in my heart for sure.

Never understood comments like this.
" Go touch grass...this guy takes college kids throwing a ball through a hoop too seriously!" Is that why you made an account here? You know the purpose of this forum, right? Everybody here has strong opinions on UK basketball, otherwise they wouldn't be here posting on a UK basketball forum. Kinda dumb to hate on someone for "caring too much" or whatever, just my opinion

He’s a grown man making his own choices. He can wear whatever he wants. Support whoever he wants.

He also should have anticipated the backlash. If he didn’t, that was pretty naive on his part.

We all make decisions in life and then deal with the consequences. We can control our own actions, but we don’t get to control other peoples’ reactions.
This is very true - and a point I often make in various contexts. But it doesn't stop there. By the same token, anyone who sees someone react negatively can respond to that by saying "wth? Kentucky fans are crazy." Which they are, of course, in ways both good and bad.
