Reed and NIL

The trendy argument for Reed is that he has to go to the NBA because of draft status. The truth is, there is a good chance he would earn more next year at Kentucky than as a 7th or 8th pick in the NBA. With NIL and local endorsement opportunities, plus the issue of his legacy, I lean towards the fact that he comes back. People are making coming back the hard decision and I think leaving would be the hardest decision. Pope mentioned legacy in his press conference. Being a legend and hero at UK has more long lasting effect on your life than an NBA career. You have a place to return to when you are done with many opportunities for the rest of your life. Just my .02 cents on the matter
He can’t come close to the NBA money with all the Nil he would get here not even close

So the standards that apply to all the other one and done mercenaries don’t apply to Reed Sheppard? Y’all love talking about the name on the front being more important than the name on back, if he cares more about the name on the front he will be back. If it’s about the name on the back he will be another one and done entitled mercenary.
The whole "mercenary" premise is entitled and mostly dishonest nonsense.

The only reason there weren't "mercenaries" even in the 50's and 60's was because the NBA didn't pay well and many had to work "real" jobs between seasons yet the best still wanted to go.

The playing for a coach piece of it has neen the case for generations.
You best bet guys came to play for Rupp, Hall, Sutton, Pitino, and Tubby.

How many nba teams roll up a bus with former players and have 30k+5k turned away to great you??

Funny how our fans who call him entitled would leave their job for 100k raise but Reed leaves UK for millions more and they have a problem with it.
No rational fan feels that way. He’s a great kid from a great family that’s as humble as the Pope. You have a lunatic fringe in every walk of life. Reed and his family know that and every human with a brain will support him regardless of the path he chooses.

Reed wasn't one of Cal's entitled ones. The entitled ones started the game and the second half when everyone in America could see they shouldn't be starting. Reed showed out when he played and Cal begrudgingly played him. Nothing entitled about the way Reed was handled. His playing time was earned. I merely point out that clearly all the entitled ones have left, while Reed is struggling with his decision. So yeah. Different.

Pros: Stay here and he keeps his youth another year...why rush growing up and getting into the complex realm of a grown man's league. Stay here and he's happy...being content is very important. Stay here and he makes great money while enjoying writing a genuine Kentucky legendary legacy. Stay here and he can enjoy being home, with Mom's love and home cooking! Stay here and he can learn to be an expert at basketball under Pope's tutelage. Stay here and he'll enjoy home with lots of money and opportunities to learn and do different things, a primer for adulthood and a long NBA career. Stay here a be a rock star, All-American point guard...starting point guard! There are more good reasons to stay...maybe his love life will be enhanced if he stays. It is complex, like Jeff says, but in the end, it'll be easy: the NBA will be there all in good time for Reed Sheppard. He's a natural who will benefit from exercising great patience. There are lots of good reasons for him to stay. I'm greedy: "Two more years! Two more years! Two more years!"

Kid's got a tough decision to make. Good arguments on both sides. He'll get good advice and I think Jeff & Stacie will give him council but in the end, Reed is going to have to turn down approx. $20M to stay. As adults we might rationalize it as a "delay", but let's call it what it is.

Here is $2M in cash, here is $20M in cash. All guaranteed. Everything else is just noise. Nothing is guaranteed.

Which one you want?

That’s only one year and assuming he can get close to 8 million a year. That won’t be easy or realistic IMO. Then there is the issue that it’s no guarantee he keeps that same stock in a different draft. Nor the fact that the contract is guaranteed for 4 years, so 20+ million more overall and an option year after that. Then he get endorsements on top there too.
Unless the NBA and the Union changed the rules within the last 10 months, this isn’t accurate. Only first two years are guaranteed. Remaining two seasons are team options.

Reed is gone bro. Get past it. You cant not go to the nba if youre going to be a top 10 pick.

Ok you are correct but I’d guarantee they almost always pick up at least the 3rd year and most find a way to extend their deals by the 4th year if they show any kind of promise. I’d bet the pickup rate for lottery picks is pretty darn high.

If your Reed you have to go. This years team may not even be that great. First year coach with a completely new roster?
