With the writing on the wall with Caleb Wilson, I’m gonna talk about him and cover a couple of other topics as well.

Kentucky’s momentum with Wilson carried up until around November, and then went radio silent. I feel like a lot of the information going around was old information that was being regurgitated while in reality the sources went dark. And that was up until the past couple of weeks when UNC talk ramped up. Turned into a battle of old vs new information at that point, and not many sources were tipping their hands, so had to go off of the last info they had gotten.

Moving forward, I’ve heard some buzz of Kentucky pursuing Nate Ament, who is one of the best wings in the country. As of right now I view that as a massive uphill battle for Kentucky. I’ve been told he wants to go somewhere where he can have on-ball reps, so UK’s offense does provide that and makes THAT side of things interesting. But I wouldn’t bank on Ament, I’d just monitor it.

What I do think Kentucky is going to do is attack the portal. I’ve heard a handful of guys that are going to enter the portal at the end of the season that are real game changers (for anyone, not just UK) but there’s a couple that fit Kentucky like a glove. There’s been a lot of interest from decision makers in both portal and HS kids that have expressed interest in playing in Kentucky’s offense.

Talking to college coaches around the country, they feel like the portal isn’t gonna have the star power of “name” guys such as Hunter Dickinson, Kel’el Ware, etc. but that it will be deep with talent and a lot of high floor prospects. Evaluation in the portal is by far the biggest separator in college basketball in today’s landscape.
