As I remember Joker's recruiting class' they where all ranked higher than we where used to seeing. However few of these players made a impact on the field for various reasons. Was this due mostly to lack of player development ? I know you never know how a class is going to turn out until a few years later and in looking at these players it is really bad what Coach Stoops inherited to work with. Was there so much turmoil between the staff that nothing seemed to get better. I find it hard to believe now looking back that Coach Stoops wanted this job. I know this is supposed to be a break-out year for us but honestly it may take another year or two because Stoops had so little of which to build upon. Joker was a very good offensive coordinator under Brooks hand but the player development seemed to go with Brooks. Wonder why ?

the last three joker classes were 50, 62 and 63, so I don't know how they could be higher than we thought. The lack of talent in those classes is why we were going 2-10 for several years. There were a few impact players in each of those classes, but not ten or so which is what you have to have.

people always forget that joker's best 3 of 5 guys in every class either never made it to campus or flunked out or got kicked out by their soph year. if you are gonna have classes in the 40's+... then you need your top recruits to perform and we were left hung out to dry on the oline, wr, lb'er, dt, cb, te, and (kind of) rb. think about some of the names we were so excited about in the past that just never made it to campus or were gone soon after arriving.

rankings only count who you got on signing day. doesn't count late qualifiers, transfers, or guys who dont make it. i would love to see what are ranking would of been if you counted our top 18 in each class that made it to their jr year under joker.

This.

Joker's first year in charge, 10, he did a great job adding last minute talent per Rivals.. At the last minute he added our one four star, Smith. At the last minute he also added Gainer, stole Priester (supposed to be fastest on team), and the consensus #1 player in state (NO four stars in state) all 5.7s to the one 5.7 he recruited early on.

Only ONE of the 5.7s and above did anything, Sanders, the early commit.

And 11 was probably worse for losing our higher rated players.

You're right. He always got some 4 star or high ranked guy at the end who usually never made it to campus, but gave our recruiting class a boast right at the end.

these rankings are only the top 20 recruits. I would say that stoops bottom 5 were better than some of the others top 20

The telling number for Phillips is that to date of the 67 players signed one, that's ONE, has been drafted by the NFL and of course that was Dupree. In fairness there maybe be a handful more after next year but that's still a paltry sum.

Lots of Joker recruits didn't last in our program, and lots of others have underperformed. To be fair, Bud Dupree, Josh Forrest, and Landon Foster have overachieved. Patrick Towles may turn out to be 1 of our better quarterbacks in modern times. But football is a team game, and Joker didn't develop enough players. That's why he is gone. Time to turn the page and talk about our current coaches.

Not gonna defend Joker, but you may have missed Avery Williamson, although he may have been inherited by Joker in the sense that he verballed before Brooks retired and then officially became part of Joker's first class. Still, your point is well made.
