Seems to be the new fad. As a fan, I don't see much value in having a kid for 1 year who is techically still a senior in high school and not physically developed. I get it from a talent perspective but UK is not truly benefitting from this.

I've wondered the same thing, but have you looked at the average age for a lot of these players? A lot - maybe a majority - have been held back a year. So for them, reclassifying just means they're graduating high school at 18 instead of 19.

The physicality isn't an issue because these guys that reclassify are just moving back to their original age group. Take a look at the guys who make the move. There's a reason they almost always make a big impact. UK is benefiting from this because it lets us have a great player. It's that simple. Then next season we get another great player when the previous one goes to the NBA.

Or to phrase it a different way, which guy that came to UK as a reclasified player should have stayed in his original class and would have made himself and our team better by not moving up? I'll give you that Nerlens in 2014 would have made us unstoppable, but he was also the best player in the country and nearly all we had in 13.

Most the kids who reclassify are going back to what should be their original class.

I wonder if some of these kids are worried eventually the NBA will make a rule that you have to stay in college 2 or 3 years??

A good number of these cases are when the player did not grow up in the US school system, so there is usually a difference in where they fit in with other kids their age.

I think what most are saying there aren't many 16 yr olds coming to college early. Most are kids that were held back and are a year older then their current classmates. So they are now where they should have been. plus canadians high school are such that by the time they end their junior year they can reclassify really easy if they feel they are ready.
