So UK misses on Zimmerman. The writing was on the wall with this one, the rumors of UNLV, UK looking at Thorne, and if you looked at mama Zimmerman's quotes she was more upset about people trying to steal her son's spotlight (which is a legitimate gripe) than the UNLV rumors themselves.
I thought Zimmerman would end up at UK up until the seven Kentucky players left for the Draft. The fact he didn't commit shortly after that showed that UK may be on the wrong end of this recruitment.
I think Stephen didn't want to tell UK no. He had a great relationship with Calipari and it was hard for him to tell Kentucky's staff he wouldn't be attending UK. I think he was hoping a center or two would stay and that would be an easy way to tell the Cats no thanks.
But then everyone left and he had to decide what he really wanted to do. He struggled with the decision but his heart won out. Hope he dominates at UNLV. He's a good kid.
So UK misses on Zimmerman. Not the end of the world. Would have been an interesting fit had he ended up at Kentucky because then UK doesn't get Thorne and I'm curious how UK would have defended the post, especially big bruiser type centers.
Where does UK go from here? Don't think Brown or Diallo ends up at Kentucky. So that leaves Ingram, Newman, Maker, Mulder and Thorne.
Maker could be a possibility but still think there's a lot of questions surrounding his reclassification.
Also I'm leaning towards Newman going elsewhere.
So that leaves Ingram, Mulder and Thorne. I think UK had a good shot of landing all three, with Ingram obviously being the biggest question mark. But he could get more shots at UK than he could at both Duke and UNC. Calipari is going to go all out on Ingram. Will be fun to watch.
Mulder and Thorne will end up at UK if Cal wants them here, and at this point the Cats just need bodies, but I think Mulder and Thorne would be solid additions.
