In the true Air Raid offense Mumme used to teach his QB's to let the ball go before the count of three. One, Two, throw. In our current offense a lot of routes take longer to develop and Towles is seen quite often holding the ball looking downfield just before the sack. We just do not have the OL to play that way and succeed. Even against EKU we could not hold the pocket long.
I saw last night when Towles threw his interceptions the WR was waiting for the ball instead of running to catch it, That's on Towles it ain't baseball.
One obvious answer is to play a tight end and/or keep a Rb in the pocket for extra protection. So far what we have seen is Kemp is our most dedicated RB as far as doing the non-glamorous part of the job. Horton who I like a lot does not block well at all and truthfully I haven't seen Williams even try yet.
The OL needs help, we just don't have OT's capable of handling top edge rushers by themselves. We have to have RB's willing to do all the tasks of their position.
Towles needs to make quicker decisions and be willing to throw the ball away.
The coaches need to call plays that allow for the sack problem to be remedied by timing.
