Reason to be optimistic about UK's run game

??? Those are Wrights numbers from this year. There is a big difference between Wrights numbers and Smokes. I don't care if he is still learning the system or not. He can continue to learn it in practice because he isn't ready for live games at this point. He just doesn't see the holes. With CRod, Smoke and McClain back in action I doubt Wright see's anymore carries if they stay healthy.

Yep, and we're still not set on our system.... If you don't want to compare, then don't include him.

CRod and Smoke both have the benefit of coming through the inside zone system and learning from how Snell and others ran the ball. In fact, they changed back to the inside zone last year when the other blocking scheme wasn't clicking with the personnel. Wright has no one to learn from because we went back to the old scheme last year. I expect him to do great once things are ironed out, just like i think the others will.

It's not that he doesn't see the holes, I don't think. I think it's that he doesn't wait until they develop. I think he hits things too quickly still. He's got to read instead of just hit it.

Comparing to last year has too many variables right now anyway, until they settle into something. Wright had 10+ yards per carry last season. I don't think that's indicative of his overall talent nor any superiority to the other guys that didn't average above 8 yards per carry. It's just too early to tell.

Ok. So the bottom data is just straight yardage numbers. The top data is taking into account a few other things. Runs of 1 and 2 yards that result in a TD or 1st down get moved from the negative category to the positive category. Runs of 3 yards or more that result in a fumble get moved from the positive category to the negative category.

Ok.

I like Wrights potential. At first I didn't put him on here because I didn't want the focus to be on him. I originally wanted the focus to be on Smoke and the similar numbers he is putting up from this year and last year to show its really not all about the blocking. Some people still didn't get it so I added Wright to drive the point home and show how big of a difference there is between him running the ball and Smoke running the ball. My point for posting this is I feel like the running game is going to improve greatly with CRod, Smoke and McClain all ready to go.

You could be right on Wright not giving the play time to develop on some plays but I've seen him crash into the back of an olineman more times than I can count on 1 hand when a running lane was open. But that needs to be learned in practice now that we have most or our RB's healthy and eligible again.

Granted Miss has done fairly well stopping the run for other opponents this yr, but how did Tulsa, who averages 148 yds/game, rush for 262 against Ole Miss last wk?

Ole Miss' base D has been a 3-2-6. They are only playing 3DL and 2LBs but 4 safeties. CRod can run on that if they stay in their base.

They even went to 4DL against Tulsa and didn't stop the run well.

Enjoyed reading Jones and Smith's comments on when they was at Ole Miss and having to tackle CR. Smith said he tried to tackle him and got his lip busted and Jones said he got a concussion trying to tackle CR. You see people bouncing off CR but probably don't realize fully the pounding defenders take from him.
