It hit me in 1978. We were never going to be a factor in the SEC. After the probation I knew that was the pinnacle. 6-7 wins and a minor bowl was the ceiling. With coming expansion I don’t expect we will see another winning record. I am thankful for the optimism of you young guys for those of us 65 and older reality set in decades ago.

I am a visitor and my opinion may not be welcomed, but it looks like there is some kind of conflict on the team. 110 different personalities all are not going to agree or get alone. But could the team resent Leary coming and and named the starter over who some may feel "their own"?

Why is this our reality?? We have the money to offer ANY coach in the country. There’s absolutely no reason to accept mediocre results. If we was only able to pay our coach top 50 money instead of top 10 money, I’d agree.

You can’t tell me there’s not a coach out there that wouldn’t come here for 9mil a year just because we aren’t a traditional football team.

You could be right. But I think there are more disconnects with this team than just that. There doesn’t seem to be an emotional leader (including the coaches). It’s almost like the coaches are throwing the footballs on the field and saying go play boys.

I think the leniency for the wr room is an issue for sure but this team gets chippy and loses focus when they face adversity, that’s a coaching issue imo.

You can’t constantly be a baby and cry over everything (Stoops) and expect your players to respond well.

It was first causing issues with coaches of other UK programs, then crying that us fans didn’t buy him enough good players, so I’m waiting to see what excuse comes next.

Stoops has zero leadership ability and it’s being exposed. He’s in over his head and needs to get out.

College football has long been about those who have dudes and those that have a lot of dudes. The reality for UK-Louisville-Missouri type of programs is they don’t consistently have enough dudes. Coaching matters until the other coach can coach too. Then it is all about dudes.

Today it is now how do you keep guys engaged throughout the season when all your team goals are gone. Then you have to worry about transfers because elite guys want a legit shot at playing for championships and in the future playoffs. The wheels can fall off quickly.

Then you have to rebuild a roster every year and hope they buy in which in today’s environment is a challenge.

The SEC expanding and potentially doing it again isn’t good for UK-South Carolina-Arkansas-Mississippi St. There just aren’t enough dudes to avoid clunker games.

I think there is something to this. The WR room is a problem. On and off the field. Catered to and no accountability. Brown and Key have been major major disappointments.
Leary dude is either on his back or chucking it.
Add in another OC change and our schedule being tougher Stoops is about where he is going to be. He has done a good job here but he is a 6-7 win coach 90% of the time. If he stays that’s what we should expect. If we go to a 9 game SEC schedule lower your expectations again bc he wont get over that hump.

This team is so undisciplined it’s embarrassing. If we had played a clean hard fought game and lost a close game I can somewhat live with that. That crap last night was worse than the UGA loss in my opinion.

We will never see another winning season? Really? You can't take this post seriously.
Could have meant in the SEC alone especially if 9 game schedule comes to fruition (and it may already have, hard to keep up with todays landscape). 2-7 and 3-6 could quickly become the norm for UK in conference play.

Idk about originally but it wouldn't be unfathomable for our backups to feel some sort of way especially seeing as Leary has been sucking hard all year and no one else has gotten even 1 meaningful snap.

lack of discipline etc marred stoops’ first handful of seasons and sort of culminated with a trash can brawl incident vs Louisville. Since then we’ve had some individual players with some issues but hasn’t been as widespread in the last 5 years as what we’re seeing now since.

I believe that us and Vandy are the only two teams in the SEC to not win their side of the division. Stoops has been at UK longer than any other coach in the league. This is what we have and probably not going to get any better. Sad that we are losing to Missouri at home at this stage.

I moved away from Lexington after college but still keep in touch with a lot of people. Some text me every year during football season, it seems, like I'm missing out and Lexington is the place to be. I feel bad for them.

Neither Ole Miss nor Texas A&M has won the West.

I was worried about that when Bear left (yes, I am that old).

Don't come crying if the very real possibility of a bowl or two per decade plays out once Stoops has moved on.

I’d rather not play in a bowl game ever again than to accept mediocrity and continue with this atrocious coaching staff.

Top 10 money in the country will not allow that to happen tho. We can hire anyone, absolutely anyone, and you think Stoops is the only guy that can make us bowl eligible?? 😂 Bless your heart!

Your extreme (and rather unfair) disrespect for Missouri is part of your problem. It is a game we certainly could have won and I thought should have won. To act like we are so above them as to suggest it is humiliating and unacceptable to lose to them is not rational though.

OM has not win the west, don't think ATM has either.

But if UGA had kept Mark Richt I think UK would have gone on a run. Look at all the coaching changes everyone in the East has had during his time at UK. Look how many times it has come down to UGA-UK determining the east rep.

If SEC goes to a 9-game schedule, would that necessarily mean that every other year all teams would have 5 conference road games ... it seems that way to me ?? Also, would the LOU game still be on the schedule ??

You can stick the patronizing bless your heart shit where the sun don't shine. Many of you are like small children who think they can get anything they want if they whine and cry enough. Having some grasp on reality does not equal settling for mediocrity. I recognized simply putting together a winning record over a decade at UK has proven to be an epic accomplishment over the last 70 years.

Rich Brooks took us to 4 straight bowl games for 9mil less a year. 🤷‍♂️

Don’t be mad because some of the younger fans aren’t ok with your and some of the older fans mediocre expectations. It’s time for football at UK to change. I’m tired of being stuck playing in bowl games the players aren’t even interested playing in.

We play enough cupcakes to win a few games but it’s doubtful we will have a winning record in the SEC. Our only hope is this state develops a QB that wants to play for UK and hates losing to Tennessee

How do you explain good runs from schools like Virgina Tech (Michael Vick era)? Mizzou grabbing 2 SEC east titles? Ole Miss made the New Years 6 under Kiffen? Crappy UL made sugar bowl and ran Florida off the field when Bridgewater was there?

According to your own post...UK getting to 2 Citrus Bowl titles and finished like 12th nationally was an utter impossibility. UK has technially played UGA twice for SEC east championship under Stoops.

I get the context of what UK deals with....but I don't get the why try mindset.

What coach would want this job when Calipari openly claims we are a basketball school, of course that isn’t true anymore m.

What coach wouldn’t want this job? Paid like your Nick Saban but you have bare minimum expectations.

The better question is, who would want to play at UK when the HC claims you (his team) isn’t good enough to win big games (UGA) because you didn’t have 5 stars coming out of HS and because the fans didn’t buy him enough of those guys. Not to mention, he claims you aren’t good enough in the middle of the season. That will deflate a player and team real quick.

I agree any "Big Name" coach not coming to Kentucky but if UK can ever get to the point of having enough money to get rid of Stoops go get Jon Sumrall. He only making 1M at Troy so he be here in a heartbeat for less than half what Stoops being paid. UK never going to be a National player but can be a 7-5,8-4 team and Sumrall can give that to UK(IMO) and his teams at least run 70 plays a game. So UK saves money, wins same number of games and at least be fun to watch.

You repeatedly say we are OK with this. This is not accurate. Recognizing the reality of your situation is not the same as being OK with it. I do not believe in trashing the Coach every time you face adversity. Stoops has already won 10 games twice. That is most definitely knocking on the damn door. He has gotten us closer than anyone since Fran Curci on multiple occasions. Forgive me for believing he can get us there again and the next step is certainly possible. I believe in staying the course with the most successful coach we have had in decades. Drawing someone who will do better is a longer shot than you acknowledge even if you throw out 9 mil a year. The next coach still has the same disadvantage of in state talent and the same disadvantage to the big money boosters that the powerhouses have.

I am old and I want UK football to take the next step. IMO Mark Stoops won’t be the guy to take us there.
Same, agree, and highly doubt it's possible. Too many factors beyond our control, mainly the number of boosters that will pony up big bucks. Reality of a small poor state.

Stoops is not a miracle worker, he’s an average coach at best, ten years in and he’s still making first tell year mistakes. He has a better record only because he is competing under better circumstances than his predecessors. $9,000,000, not a bargain. That kind of money should buy a very good coach.

Our best days are behind us with CMS and Mitch at the helm. UK attitude, "just be quiet and be a good sheep"--"We gave you two 10 win seasons, what more do you want"
I listened yesterday (and I don't know why I listened) to some talking heads and the host of the show said, "I don't know one person that wants CMC fired"--Indenfensible to have a talk show with such mental midgets. And some of those guys I used to like but be a company man and keep your $100 per salary.

The sad reality for this season is that UK will probably not win another game. The schedule the rest of the way is brutal.
