The whole idea of “I’ll play in the bowl if I get more NIL” is pretty off putting honestly. And I’m saying that about a sport that has a lot of other unfortunate aspects
I too hold it against other human beings for not putting their health, body, and career on the line for the love of the game.
Don’t care why he’s playing just glad he is.
Ray already got paid a bunch of NIL to play here. If you think it’s a good idea to start doing NIL on a game by game basis that’s fine but it’s pretty damn stupid

With how bad injuries a can be, and even brain trams, yes, it is kind of. Will never ever fault a kids looking out for themselves over what fans want of them.

Just my guess, but I doubt he asked for more NIL, but views it as a live combine for NFL scouts against a good defense.
Considering that an NFL tight end just got post traumatic amnesia from a hit I would say war and game might be closer than people think.
Nobody owes anyone anything. Ray does owe anyone to play in that game unless he wants to.
Honestly it doesn’t really matter. Even if we win people will just say Clemson played with a shell of their former defense. These bowl games are so pointless except to give younger guys some reps. Honestly, it would probably be better for Davis to sit and let some younger guys play. Doesn’t mean we don’t try to win the game, but you have to balance things out with what is good for our future.

Players at this level and the next have chosen to play football since they were in the 4th grade. Injuries are part of the game. My hope is that those who play never get hurt but that won't make it so.
I played ,(a long time ago)my son played in two state championship games and we lucked out by never being seriously injured.
If Davis is playing for extra NIL money so be it, from what we have seen of him I think he will go 100% money or not. I am glad he opted to play
Agreed. So don’t play. His position has a short shelf life so try to hang around the league a few years and make money. I don’t want to use fans’ money to entice him finish what he started. If he wants to bail then let him bail.

Ray doesn't owe the fans anything. If they want him to play, then pay him. If you don't want to pay then dont Pay. I'm glad hes playing and I'm glad he's getting paid. It matters exactly zero what you or I want And you're not changing anyone else's mInd. So what are you hop8ng to accomplish?
Firstly, we don’t know that’s why he decided to play. That’s speculation. If we had drawn Notre dame last year levis would have played. We are going to a decent bowl with a marquee opponent. I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt until I hear something different.
I will also throw in that anytime my company offered me more money to do the job I was already doing, I did it. I hope he made all he can.

Where is there any news about holding out for more NIL $? (I don't pretend to know if he was offered $ for the bowl game.)
I seriously doubt he's been offered $ to play in bowl game. NIL seems to be the "go to" where some fans blame everything they don't like.
For years, players attempting to go to NFL have said that the opponent (and bowl game) is huge factor in determining whether they play in a bowl game. I'm guessing we would have more opt outs if we were playing VaTech in Mayo Bowl. Gator Bowl versus Clemson feels like a bigger game with brighter lights. (And will be watched by more NFL scouts ;-)

I never applied to Harvard, because I then thought affirmative action was entirely race-based, I still hope to grow rich and lay a Supermodel, and that my team beats Clemson in the Gator Bowl . . . and I will give nary a damn what "people say," if any of the above comes to pass.

Fans falling for it already. "Playing" needs more definition. Playing could be dressing, sitting on the sidelines "available", doing 3-5 plays in the first half, and then sitting the rest of the game, regardless of the score.

He actually was a bowl sitting out puss just a few days ago. What changed? Clemson as the opponent? Florida for a bowl game? Nah, there's money in there somewhere.
And whether he really plays a full or even half game remains to be seen. He could do the first few running plays and then poof - gone.
First, and foremost, good for Davis for playing. If he chose otherwise, that's fine, too. His call.
Second, if not for the fans that you sneer at, there is no college-football in the first place. What possible market is there for a sport without fans?
From what I have seen of Ray Davis, he competes his butt off. If he plays in the bowl game, he will go all out like he always has.
Then don't play football. Let someone else play who loves the game and would be happy to receive a free education in the process.

Wonder if that will change the line in Vegas? Considering alot of Clemson defense in transferring and not playing.
