You know, I never really thought about it before, but now that Ray Allen points it out I can see how that oppressive, all-consuming, obnoxious, relentless, insufferable egomania of Pitino's could turn some people off.

regarding Allen, I think Pitino was also after Charles O'Bannon & another guy from the DC area at that time........think Allen was the 3rd choice & he turned out to be best of the group

no, maybe it wasn't his father, but the rest is accurate. He said he changed schools after Pitino changed the subject.
I remember the part about Pitino well. but not who was with him I guess I assumed it was his dad
. I was a little disappointed UK didn't land him after that. He was a great player for Duke

Why are you so angry? Just because Jim Calhoun is a douche doesn't mean Rick can't also be a douche. I've seen it firsthand. As a high school player our AAU team got to sit in on an offseason workout because they were looking at a few of our older guys. We showed up about 5-10 minutes late and Rick Pitino put my AAU coach on the treadmill and berated him for most of the workout.

Can't imagine him getting an AAU coach to run on a treadmill though

I know this is the internet and truth is at a minimum sometimes but I PROMISE it went that way. Looking back it was one of the funniest things I've seen but as a 15 year old kid I was scared that I'd step out of line and be next.

Rick had a pipeline into our team and knew our coach pretty well. As you can imagine the well ran dry after that.
