Have not studied film yet, but a couple of casual thoughts in real life. Our OL are not not getting angles on their blocks. We are tying up head on, lanes not being created. Is it a lack of quickness, strength or drive? One reason Smoke is getting some yards around the ends. Rodriguez cannot run wide like that so thinking he is going to create lanes is false. The OL has to get better at their job, even a CR would have trouble with the job they are doing now. The South Florida game last night would be a good example of what talking about. Their OL was getting the right angles a lot of times, and they had the strength and quickness, to knock the DL sideways to create those lanes.
Our pass blocking not bad, but man Flax bothers me the way he is on his heals sometimes getting pushed back. He is not the brawler Kinnard was or have his quickness. The defender that is half his size is getting his hands high on him, bending him back. Do the swim move and dislocate arms if you have to! And the right side is not athletic or fast enough to get to the second level like we are used to. The left side is lighter than we are used to so not sure yet how much the lack of bulk is effecting that side. If they can't get angles then driving people in the SEC is not going to be easy.
At times almost wish we would have just went ahead with Goodwin at LT and let him learn on the fly. But now with SEC schedule fixing to hit hard not sure we can afford to start from scratch there. Would like to see Young get some good time this week to see what he looks like. Overall, concerned with lack of athletic ability and quickness on the right side and lack of driving ability on the left side. Hopefully the coaches can get them better at getting angles on their blocks if they aren't big or strong enough on their driving ability.
