Who do you think is the mystery team offering him 6 million to transfer and not stay at Texas or enter the draft?

Why a team wants to pay a ton for Ewers is a bad idea.....He isn't elite with NFL OLine, faster WR in college, Sark as play caller, and a defense that get the ball back regularly.

He throws moon balls and quick stuff with tons of YAC for his stats....struggles over the middle. I'd argue with a less talented roster he'll show tons of warts.

If Ewers announced he would be entering the draft after this season (if, not saying he did), would it be tampering to let him know he has other lucrative offers?

No one would have ever heard of Ewers if he weren't surrounded by supremely talented players. His arm is subpar, his decision making is suspect at times and physically just isn't NFL caliber. Gutsy execution in the OT and doesn't play afraid in big moments, so it's not like he sucks. He's a good college QB, but, imo, that's his ceiling.

Duke is paying the Tulane QB an estimated 8 million in NIL for him to QB next season. I think there are a few teams that would pay 6 million for Ewers (Ole Miss, Oregon, Ohio State, Georgia)
Down here in the Carolinas, the rumor was that UNC was floating some big numbers to Ewers among other experienced QBs. Hard to know what the ground truth is though.

The report on the Duke arrangement for Mensah (Tulane QB) is $8 mil over 2 years ($4m/year). All numbers are unverified and always come from unnamed sources, so who knows?

Is it weird that Duke didn't offer the same money to Maalik Murphy? He took less to join Oregon State. What's the story there?

We are talking about state universities, in many instances, giving schollies to players who are being paid by collectives and people have no idea how much money is involved. There is no transparency in college sports. How coaches navigate this crap is beyond comprehension. And, then the only way there is any light shed is when a player publicly complains through the media, like D Martinez, or through lawsuits.

Miami-put him in the ACC he will ball out. Makes no sense to stay in SEC.

Ewers was the #1 ranked QB in his high school class and a top 5 overall recruit. Anyone that follows recruiting knew who he was before he played a down in college. With that said, I don’t think his college career has matched the hype he came in with.

Ole Miss, Ohio St, Oregon…

Got to be a playoff team or one sniffing around that has no problem spending big…

Dark horses:

Colorado
USC
Miami
Norte Dame
Ewers already spent a year at Ohio State. I don’t think OSU would want him back and they also have two five stars on the roster that will be competing for the starting spot next season.

Ohio State sure got their money worth for him

Ewers would be a great fit at UK - hitting those quick slants and 20 yard flares to the boundary is a staple of our receivers. He’d elevate our program a little more.

He entered with Kyle McCord. Both knew the other was a top rated QB. I doubt there was a QB class better in 2021. Articles were written about OSU landing both. Ewers transferred and McCord became the QB. McCord then transferred after a rocky season, which was also best for him and OSU.

He wasn’t supposed to be in McCords class. Ewers decided last minute to skip his senior year as NIL was just introduced and he wanted to capitalize on it the first year. OSU would have preferred he didn’t come a year early but you can’t turn down the #1 qb recruit if he wants to come early.

Ewers likely would have beat out McCord had he stuck around. However, CJ Stroud was named starter when Ewers was a FR and CJ was only a sophomore. Ewers didn’t want to have to wait two years, until CJ left, to get his chance as he wasn’t going to beat out CJ. Plus, TX likely offered him a fat bag to come home and play for the the Longhorns and start right away.

Had Ewers stayed in his normal high school graduating class then he would have sat behind CJ his freshman year and likely started at OSU his sophomore year.

Thanks. Had forgotten most of that.

Wasting 4 million a year knowing u won't win anything that matters. Fascinating.

He has almost thrown for more yards than UK has ... the past 2 years combined. Even missed a couple of games IIRC.

he also got a cool 1 mill NIL for sitting on the bench and then transferring

He skipped his SR year and signed with OSU because he had a million dollar NIL deal from a company in TX. Texas HSAA wouldn’t let him get NIL in HS. OSU didn’t get him that 1st deal. A Columbus dealership gave him a lease on a F350 that got got back when he transferred. Everyone says OSU gave him a million dollars to come early and be their 3rd string qb but that is nowhere near the truth
