How many major college Co-Ordinators have gone directly to head coaches at major college football programs without being a head coach at a smaller school first and been very successful? I can think of two - Kirby Smart at Alabama and Ryan Day at Ohio State. Both of those guys were at National Championship programs and for many years. Any others?
