Question about practice starts

Different teams are starting practices on different days. Someone told me that it was because you get extra days in August if you went to a bowl game. Is this correct? Obviously, they don't all start on the same day. Thanks for any explanation.

It depends on when your first game is and has nothing to do with bowl games.

Don't you have so many practice days (20?) regardless of when you start? If you start sooner, you have to have more off days, right?
