Why does it seem their sets get wide open shooters play after play after play . And we struggle to get our best shooters shots ? Brea has guys inside his jersey and Proctor , K nipple , James and others get wide ope J's time after time Is Dukes sets that good ? Do they screen better , pass better ? Do they drive so well defense's collapse and their drive/dish ? If Brea got Proctors looks he might shoot 75 % from the floor . NO I'm not jealous , Duke will come back to earth , but their offense is dang good . and. I hope some SEC team smashes them . Maybe its because every is watching Flagg ?

Yes, that’s what happens when you have legit superstar players. Their gravity opens up everything else.

Yeah we need a legit superstar . I mean , are we pretending we are FF or championship contenders when we dont have a single AA ? Hard to do with solid team , but no Brome , Clayton , Flagg type talents . If we are going to be as big a deal as BBN wants we need some special dudes

They have Flagg, Knuepple, Proctor, and James who can all beat their man off the dribble and maluach who can stretch Armstrong anything close to the rim. That means guys have to help off of their man leaving them open and bigs can't help or else Maluach gets an easy dunk. Their starting 5 is a very well put together starting 5.

I agree with all this being said but we can do better. Almost no screens or cuts in that UT game. It was very poor plan and execution. But it is legit you must have serious talent and athleticism

Their best play is the pick and roll with Flagg setting the screen. He gets the ball at the free throw line going down hill and it is a nightmare to guard.
Keep shooters on the wing and kalaman rolling for the lob.

They also run their shooters off screens at the 3 pt line and if the defender is trailing it forces them to immediately stop or they will run into the shooter. Evans and nippel both come right off the screen and elevate into the shot. They have big guards and they are smart/crafty and skilled.

They will have to have an off night shooting for Houston to stay in the game.
I do like 11 for Houston on Flagg. He is the best defender in the country.

They have the speed to beat their man off the dribble. Brea was painfully slow. With some more athleticism our offense would look like what it did when we played teams with equal or worse athleticism. If you remember the beginning of the year we were scoring in the 100s regularly. We were actually the number 1 scoring offense by a wide margin after first 8 games.

Fair!

I know This has been answered but there players are all triple threat good - it’s not the offense it’s talent

Duke's whole offense is based on finding mismatches and exploiting them. If you end up with a guard who's too small on Flagg or a big who's too slow, other players need to help off their man to stop Flagg from scoring at will. When they help off they leave someone open, and they're a good enough passing team (and big to see the court) that they find the open guy.

They have guys who can penetrate and beat their defender to the middle of the floor. They pass to the perimeter and wide open shot
We have trouble dribbling when being guarded period. Athleticism. Strength with the ball

Cooper Flagg takes a double team and teams can’t with the supporting cast around them. We’d be just as good with cooper.

I said back in November, playing Duke early was a blessing. They have figured out their spacing and they use a ton of Elevator screens. It helps when your 6 9 power forward is initiating the action, bigs are not use to guarding the perimeter. Besides their two centers all four guys are a threat to shoot.

Teams have to guard the paint because if they don’t it’s lobs and Flagg driving. Any help and you have a wide open look. Dukes offense has been running these sets since mid January and it changed their efficiency rating over night.

What’s impressive is that 5 of the 9 players in their rotation are Freshmen, including 3 that start and play major minutes.

I think it is 1) they have a "superstar" who even on an off-night garners a LOT of attention of opposing defenses, 2) the moving screens, and 3) a big that is a big lob threat that forces defenders to cheat and help out some on the post.

1-4 are all triple threats. Pretty simple. Get's defenses moving leaving shooters open and have the big guy in the dunker spot.

If we have Flagg, we are in FF now

Flagg is just very very good and elevates Duke to another level

Other guys are good but not that good

Because they have decided to stay on top by committing to spending the necessary money to do so! It’s as simple as that.
Nike $$$$ still calling the shots on where the top talent ends up......and it is Duke.

There are other factors, but Duke has cornered all the top talent that used to come our way when WWW and Cal were playing the game.

Supposedly they are not not as competitive with NIL money as some other schools...its the machine money, not NIL.

Flagg is good, very good, but watch on his spin moves, he ALWAYS PUSHES OFF with other hand and it's NEVER called. He's Un guardable if the refs let that happen and they DO let that happen, all the time. That's how he gets around his man, most of the time when others do it it's called. Thats why teams double him when he drives and then someone like Proctor or K nipple are open. They have size and shooters and all of the other perks the refs give them.

This is correct. Duke was outbid for VJ Edgecombe (Baylor) and Flory Bidunga (Kansas). Both were heavy Duke leans then they flipped at the last minute.
Was a blessing in disguise though as this allowed Duke to get 2 veteran transfers in Sion James and Maliq Brown. Both unselfish guys who don't need the ball in order to impact the game, both elite defensive players.

Duke almost always played a 2 in, 3 out motion under K. Occasionally a 1 in, 4 out if personnel dictated it.

Now they are almost always a 1 in, 4 out.

Seems like 2 in, 3 out is a dinosaur now.
