Question about all this Higgins coverage...

So all these reports about the BBN making possible death threats (which I find dubious, by the way) to J. Higgins have basically made us look like trash in the eyes of the sports following nation. Fine, whatever.

What I find interesting is a comment in the SI story on said referee Higgins from last year where it states, in the 3rd paragraph: "He has seen pictures of his kids posted online by angry fans."

Now that, if true, would be beyond despicable. Kids, even the children of convicted criminals, have the right to remain distanced and anonymous from their parents, I don't care what they've done. And I think almost everyone who heard that story would overwhelmingly agree with me on that. So where was THAT story when it happened? I mean we are in a national upheaval over some frustrated fans acting like idiots on a facebook page, how would that even compare to bringing a guys kids into stuff like this?

I agree! The children should be off limits no matter what kind of crook he may be.
Also threats of physical violence is totally unacceptable. Sending a message, while admitting it is juvenile, not so much.

Bottom line is we had a small percentage of very sick, despicable and pathetic fans that gave this guy a voice. That bunch of morons probably succeeded in making us a few enemies we didn't have before. I expect to start seeing some actual bias against KY which extends beyond missed calls or no calls. It's what happens when you make a martyr. Best thing to do is let the university deal with this and get off his back.

I'm kinda ambivalent about the death threats and kid involvement. If that happened, it's a matter for the justice system. I hope they catch them, whoever they are and punish them to the fullest extent of the law.

The point the OP is making is that it has happened before with him, and arguably more serious, and it was not a national story. UK gets held to a different standard on pretty much everything.

Contrary to popular belief....the whole world doesn't "eat, breathe and sleep" college hoops (like we do). Most Americans don't know jack squat about the day to day highs and lows of any basketball fan base.

It is obvious his history suggests he enjoys being the 'bad man' on the court, nobody messes with me. Hence, his personality in life, so he runs to tell on us. Maybe he can get someone in power to help push back at us. Enjoys his power on the court kind of like a Crean in real life. Picked on as a kid and taking it out on people like Cal.
