Quade Green vs Tre Young

In the picture Q is standing behind Trae so you can't tell but Q is like 6'0 ish last time I checked. Young is gonna shoot bombs from deep. Q is going to pass a lot and can/will down a 3. Q gets his teammates more involved and we have so much talent, so I want a passing PG.

Spin anyway you want, there were just too many articles early on documenting that Cal wanted Trae. Now that Cal is still recruiting another guard it seems likely he hoped to land both. As another posted pointed out, Quade is more of a passing p.g. and Trae is a shooter.

There are a select few college programs if you are offered you are an idiot not to go. Kentucky is clearly the main program for elite talent. I still don't even know the names of the players on the Oregon Final Four team and they may even win the championship and still few on that team will be remembered. Trae waited too long to pull the trigger. Big mistake.

I can't find Trae Young's senior year shooting statistics to save my life.

Can anyone?

He's obviously a good shooter. But I don't mind saying if he were coming here that missing stat would bother me. Until that's known, between the two options you want the guy who shot 38% from 3 with a good volume leading a state champion team, not the guy whose high point totals on a terrible team are all you can find. Even if shooting is all you care about. The Mickey D's three point contest is great, like I said he can obviously shoot. But it's one event and it's not even guarded.

Quade is listed at 6'1" 172
Trae is listed at 6'2" 176

They both have varying numbers published, that was the largest I saw for each.

Quade is a true alpha dog. He is showing that this week. You will see tonight! He is going to be a fan favorite right away.

Love love love the Philly hoodie he is wearing! Always representing Philly!

The kid I really wish UK had gotten is Lonnie Walker, still completely astonished he is going to the black hole that is Miami. He scored 35 points in a state semifinal game and led his team to its first ever state 6A championship. And he is 6'5".

I wanted Trae but the more I read and watched Green he is a winner. Watching videos he reminds me of a taller Ulis. He reads the floor good and knows how to get others involved. You see in how the other allstars react with him that they respect his game and want to play with him.

Quade is a small pg whose best attribute is his basketball IQ and who everybody else in AAU wants to play with/fight for.

We've had very, very good experiences with a guy like that in the recent past.

Also, I hate to say stuff like this, but now that the recruitment is done - there's something about Tre constantly looking like he just thawed out from a Paleolithic era cave. Just shave your head or get rid of the peach fuzz or something, dude.

How much bigger is young than green? How would you compare their games
Trae Young is an electric scorer who can hit the jumper off the bounce. The kind of kid who will have a 40-point game or two at OU as a frosh. Green is a quintessential true PG and team leader. Btw, Young along with teammate Porter routed Green and Bamba's team in the Peach Jam final game. Young had 28 points. Green and Bamba had 17 points together.

yes Cal wanted young
but Cal also made the statement that he would only take one small guard
yes Cal wants another guard (since we only have 3) he is wanting a shooting guard

Your team lives and dies at the PG spot. On a team full of elite talent the #1 thing you want in a Point Guard is ability to run the offense and facilitate the team. 3-point shooting is not a primary need for what we are.

Trae Young was not meant for Kentucky. Green was. If we had piss-poor recruiting and needed a PG who can score and possibly win games all on his own, then Young would be the guy... But we have 4 other guys on the court who can score at will. If Green's leadership, passing, and overall "true" point guard skills are elite.. it makes everyone better. Young doesn't do enough to make everyone better

my buddy is at the practices (assistant gm), said that Sexton is the best pg prospect, Quade will be the best college pg though.

Except Sexton isn't really a PG. He's a PG in the same way that Allen Iverson was a PG.

Guys like that are hard to build around (see how Washington completely failed to do anything with Fultz), and often hard to play with. There's nothing wrong with your PG being your main scoring threat, but it's more a type of attitude. John Wall might lead his team in shot attempts, but it's pretty obvious that he wants to spread the ball around as much as possible. De'Aaron Fox is the same way. Somebody like Sexton? Ehh...is he more concerned with getting 30, or spreading the ball around?

Given UK's roster composition, I'll always take the slightly less talented distributor over the slightly more talented guy who might or might not really be a PG.

Don't think it's a stretch to say young is the more rare/special talent. That said, Green is a more natural point guard who we're much more likely to have for multiple years than would have been the case with Young. Also, who knows the impact that Green had in helping to sway our other recruits in this class to join him. I'd say we broke even, at worst.

Here is my two cents on this...

Young was set to go UK but wanted to wait till season was over. That wasn't the original plan. Cal wanted to get the class going and got in on Quade and figured out the class as a whole would be better with him.

Quade help you all get Diallo (Excellent prospect) and probably Bamba (BIG TIME).

Washington, Richards, and Vanderbilt were coming regardless to KY.

I've also heard a little bit about how Vanderbilt may be able to some spot point forward for you also if needed. Which is interesting. He has the skill set.
