I'll be surprised if Shai Alexander isn't the starting PG.
Most years our PG is a top 2-3 player...but I'd label Teague and Andrew Harrison as moreso serviceable PGs in their first year than stellar. And I agree...I hope Quade is at least serviceable and we can gain our edges over opponents with Diallo and Washington offensively and then smothering defensive unit with strong rebounding across the lineup.Disagree. I think he'll be the first point guard in the Cal era that ends up as merely serviceable, rather than "disappointing" (Ryan Harrow) or "stellar" (every PG other than Ryan Harrow). Green will do his job, and more importantly, he will be an unselfish distributor that will facilitate the real superstars on this team in doing theirs.
The center position will determine how far this team goes.
I get the feeling too the starting PG spot is more up for grabs than some think. Although Green taking the reins with SGA subbing the 1 and 2 seems like a better scenario.I'll be surprised if Shai Alexander isn't the starting PG.
No, it will be Green..you might be putting too much stock in the Derby game..And I'm not real high on Green. thinking maybe 6-8ppg..and that's ok if he runs the team well.we have scorersI'll be surprised if Shai Alexander isn't the starting PG.
I'm good and you ?I agree, strong point guard play is key. How you been, smooth?
nah.I'll be surprised if Shai Alexander isn't the starting PG.

I agree if you're talking about defense.I'll be surprised if Shai Alexander isn't the starting PG.
Anyone else think it's at least possible that Diallo may run some PG? Particularly if Green struggles. He's been around and knows Cal's system better than the freshmen. I could see Cal going for the attempt at a Russ Westbrook in college type thing.
Disagree. I think he'll be the first point guard in the Cal era that ends up as merely serviceable, rather than "disappointing" (Ryan Harrow) or "stellar" (every PG other than Ryan Harrow). Hey man I been a Kentucky fan since the days of Minnifield, Hurt, Bowie, Hurd, Madison, Harden, I don't jump on bandwagons. Oh how you been man ?Hey Butters....... how's it going being a Maryland fan lately? or have you completely jumped on the UNCheat bandwagon?
Those are not good numbers at all for teague.I think you forget about a "merely serviceable" Marquis Teague. He was NOT "stellar". But thanks to the talent around him (National Player of the Year, plus #2 draft pick, + 3 very good returning starters) he left with a ring. Teague shot 41% overall, 32% from 3, and his AST/TO was 1.75.
I agree that Green will not play at the level of Wall, Knight, Ulis, Fox.
But I think he can contribute as much as Andrew H (both years) or Teague did.
Green is the reason we landed some of the recruits we did, players love being his team mate. Id say hes pretty good.Based on fact I believe he's a superior prospect/player then Green. And Cal loves big lineup/guards. I don't say this as a shot at Green at all--think he's a going to be a fine college player and has great traits for the lead guard position, just think Alexander will have an easier transition to college game and has been/is now/will be vastly underrated by UK fans/National Media due to not being in the All Star games everyone sees.
Now regarding postseason All Star games he played in-Derby was great showing but I thought far more interesting was how lost the World Team looked when he was off the court in Nike Hoop Summit. That's what great guards do, they impact teammates, don't need much time to adjust to playing with guys and make game easier for teammates. Minute he left the game, Team USA would go on a run (sparked by anytime Jarred Vanderbilt was in the game--see I'm a fair and balanced observer, lol)
It's a great issue to have as I'd rather have 2 guards I like at that position then trying to figure out what to do.
Kind of agree. I don't think he has to be a star, but I think he has toIn my opinion he is the key to the how good the Cats will be next season.
Agree, the 5 spot is the big question, how good can Richards get and how much help will he get. I think Alexander could be a surprise in terms of what we get from himDisagree. I think he'll be the first point guard in the Cal era that ends up as merely serviceable, rather than "disappointing" (Ryan Harrow) or "stellar" (every PG other than Ryan Harrow). Umm... so why did Diallo say he talked to Calipari and he'll play the point and be the leader of the team this coming season?Diallo will not see much if any time at PG..he's not a great ball handler ..Cal has also said he makes poor decisions on the break.. Green will play 25-30min at point and SGA as his backup.. imo
