Why did OSU kick it? Only way they lose is a blocked XP returned for 2 points, sending the game to OT. Of course, ND could have hit a miracle Hail Mary pass for the win, but the XP is irrelevant in that scenario. Seems like the obvious play is to take a knee.

Thinking out loud here, I guess if ND got 2 back to back PI calls and got into FG range with no time on the clock, the XP would then matter, but still, no way I would have kicked it at that point.

In that scenario, you’re basically deciding which improbable event you think is slightly more likely so you can defend against it. A blocked PAT returned for 2, or enough penalty yards being assessed on the kickoff or last play to put your opponent in FG range on the resulting untimed down. I would tend to agree with you that the botched PAT is slightly more likely, especially since officials have a tendency to put away their flags on last ditch plays, but the probabilities are so small either way that I’m not sure there’s really an objectively correct decision there.

UK once lost a game on 2 (or maybe 3) back to back PI calls vs Tulane

What was the point spread? That'll tell you your answer.

I believe it was OSU -3...

Great minds, Tsk, great minds. I had the exact same thought. I originally thought the XP was after the game clock expired but they put a second back on. But, I would have done exactly as you said - snap it to the holder and have him lay down. Last year, Ruffalo was, what, like 50% on XPs (I exaggerate, of course)? No way I would have trusted him to kick it high and straight in that situation.

Ahh will never forget losing a 5 figure parlay payday bc the Arizona cardinals decided to kneel an extra point 🤮

Early birds got the worm. +3.5, I was kicking my feet up, relaxin’ while others were losing their marbles.
Same here. Though i guess i wanted ND to win because i hate OSU more,OSU will get beat in a Big10 game at some point. It was nice just sitting back on that last drive with +3.5 in my pocket. Of course when I saw they had to kick the extra points visions of some crazy fumbled snap and OSU running or throwing ball into the End zone for a 2 pt. conversion.

XPs don't run the clock, so you'd still have to kick off and they can fair catch the kick and have one last offensive play. If you trust your FG kick team, don't you kick to art least force them to score a TD to win?
