The NCAA conditioned people to use this phrase. Do we really care though?
When you can transfer, mainly for NIL money.. these “kids” are already pro players, playing for money.. so why can’t Anthony Davis at the end of his NBA career come back and play a year or two at UK? I truly think this will happen, maybe not AD..
Also.. a really plus for the NBA, is it should drive the rookie deals down in terms of dollars.. because if it doesn’t work, you drop back down to the college level..
Colleges will pay more for the better players than the G league.. the only obstacle could be school.. classes.. not sure how that would work..

If it ever is allowed to happen, it won’t be a superstar like AD doing it. He’ll be too old and far too insanely rich when his NBA career ends to consider that.
Instead, it would be one of our “borderline” NBA players who washed out of the league when still fairly young and hungry.
I agree .. we are headed for a back and forth with college being the club team.. what’s to keep an NBA franchise from contributing to a college NIL fund and have them bring players in from HS to see if they develop? So the Dallas Mavericks team up with UT to develop young talent. We are headed that way.. I’m not sure I like it, but I see it coming.
I don’t think college teams will go away because of the current infrastructure, contracts and fan base. I’m also not sure why the players can’t just be employees of the university and not students at all.

You do realize that the NBA already has a “back and forth” developmental system in place like that with their designated G-League affiliates, right? What you’re describing essentially already exists.
Now, if the idea is for college teams to eventually replace the G-League as the new minor-league system for the NBA, that’s something to consider. But, for that to happen, the NCAA is gonna have to dispense with the illusion that these are real college students who must be enrolled in classes …and finally admit that what we have here is just plain ole pro sports.

I do.. but many low end G league players could May be able to make more at the college level.. I watch and follow the G league, not many fans.. can’t make any money as a league

Amateur status became pointless when they started allowing Pros to compete in the Olympics. After that, trying to maintain some sort of Amateur status was useless and quite honestly unfair to college athletes to have more restrictions on them than the average student.
100% Cal couldn't win another title even if he had the current AD on his roster.

Unless the NCAA is ready to declare them employees, allow a union, and collectively bargain those changes ..... the Supreme Court may feel differently. Unless you feel like your employer should have a say in how and when you are allowed to change jobs and what someone else is allowed to pay you.
Maybe one thing that could be done is have player rankings determine the percentage of total NIL they are eligible for on the team they're playing for. Have the total kiddy available to the team based on season-end results. Win a title, get ALL of the kiddy. Go out in the first round of the NCAA tourney, get a portion of the kiddy. This could make it so that players WANT to play, and prevent paying out based on individual stats.

Could we have legitimate A and B teams at the college level? Would you rather watch a UK A team with John Wall, Cousins, and MKG, along with a UK B team with Travis Perry and Trent Noah, or would you want to watch a Wizards/Raptors game?

A lot of players blow all their money and are broke after playing. Antwan Walker, Rex Chapman are broke.
Cousins is overseas because he blew all his too. I’m not so sure some STARS won’t try.
