It's amazing how much better the coaching is when guys make shots.
Pope was stupid as hell in the Texas game telling his guys to only hit 25% from 3. Much better job coaching tonight telling them to shoot 40%.
His adjustment to go big and go inside in the second half was a very good adjustment from our typical offensive sets. You just didn't notice.
The sets he ran for the bigs inside and focus on running it through Carr and Williams inside is why the game broke open for us.
The 3s came after that because the D had to adjust to the change in offense.
Pope obviously made that adjustment at half. You just didn't notice.
Nothing stupid as hell about beating a scrappy Vandy team while we are down 2 starters and a sixth man either.
One of the few posters who remains consistent whether win or loss. W post as always…beyond pumped that we have Coach Pope!

We played a WHOLE LOT better down the stretch tonight which was the difference in the game. Carr looked like he did at the first of the season in the 2nd half!!
Coach Pope used our Bigs to get everyone shots. We were WAY MORE aggressive tonight on BOTH ends!!!

The adjustments that he made in the second half were stellar.
Loved how he changed and decided to take it to the paint. Vandy was not going to let us shoot too many three's, going inside forced Vandy to change their defense.
Glad to see it. Couple of other games should have done the same
Defense was the difference tonight- up until a week ago we were the weakest team in the country on defense.....that is rapidly changing for the better.
If your an SEC coach and Travis Perry is your STARTING point guard any conference win is brilliant

Yeah they did tonight and we did the UT game also. Played the last 4 minutes to perfection, if we did that at Texas it would have been a Win too.

I’ve seen enough to know that I want Mark Pope here for a long time. He is going to get better every year.
I stupidly assumed most of the fanbase would give Pope at least a full season before they started questioning every single thing he did but I was obviously wrong there. Dude is trying to piece it together with his starting backcourt out in one of the roughest toughest conferences in the country and we have folks whining about his rotation or how he’s too nice to get the best out of guys.

Disagree completely. Pope and Ky lost some games this year despite playing their ass off and good coaching. Tough to win road games when you are down 2 starters.
Not saying Pope hasn't made some coaching mistakes this year but every loss UK has had wasn't necessarily a reflection on his coaching.
Sometimes you're just out manned or outgunned regardless of how well the coach did.

Two starters and like your second or third guy off the bench who is your backup PG. Since December we haven’t had a full lineup. Remarkable what he’s done.
I don’t know…I haven’t been on here since Saturday but Twitter has been a shitshow. The Facebook fan pages are always uber positive. I’ll give you that. I remember last year they basically banned talking about Cal.
But even my group thread text with my friends the last few weeks have soured on Pope. They question and bitch about everything without really acknowledging the injuries. I just don’t understand it.
That’s crazy, I have a group text thread with a couple UK fans and UofL fans. They all are like Pope is legit. They know injuries are all that has kept us from being a top 5ish team most of the year. Kelsey and Pope will battle for years to come. I hope the crazies in our base don’t ruin it because he will be great with the resources to get players. Even the UofL guys can see how good he is. If you take an objective look at this year it’s crazy what job he’s done.
He's also done a fantastic job getting these freshmen to come in and play to the max of their current mental/physical abilities.
They could have come in and sh** their pants if not for good coaching imo.
Our defense hasn’t been terrible this season as a whole. Our first shot defense is decent, not great.
Our defensive rebounding is horrible. That makes the defensive numbers look worse than it is.
Especially with KP. He doesn’t count offensive rebounds as a new possession.
A perfect example of how wrong KP can be was the end of the first half.
We gave up 2 offensive rebounds. They got 3 shots to make that last 2 pointer.
But to KP that was one possession and 2 points for that possession.
It was actually 3 possessions. Or .66 point per possession.
Numbers lie.
KP is a pace metric. Not a basketball metric.
Of course it’s figured the same for every team. But we give up far more offensive rebounds than most. So it screws our numbers more.
Good thing the games are not played on KP’s computer.
Hopefully his weather forecasting is more accurate than his basketball.

I think you can make the argument an offensive rebound shouldn't reset the metric. I want metrics that track both, but if you don't "kill" the possession, then you haven't really done your job on that end of the court.
Anyone criticizing the body of work that Pope has put in this year is a damn fool.
He's been hit by the biggest injury bug I've seen from a UK team in a long time and still has these Cats competing and winning.

Considering the injuries we’ve had this season, he’s done a fantastic job.
No when he made the adjustment to tell his players to quit jacking it from three and give it to Carr and Williams first in the paint . In Nashville with Carr we win that game too these injuries have cost us at least 4 losses this year .
Sarcasm … we agree. Coaches get too much credit and also get too much blame.
