Prep coach: John Wall couldn't score like Terrence Clarke

Don't think it is that far fetched. JW had limitations offensively when it came to putting the ball into the hoop from all three levels. He excelled at getting to the rim, was a below average pull up shooter and three point shooter. This is not a knock, just reality. He was also the best playmaker in college basketball as far as running an offense and setting his teammates up for open looks.

TC can score effectively from all three levels. Will take the wait and see approach, but this is what I am getting.

This is in no way saying TC will have the impact that JW did as a freshman. As we all know, he was a once in a decade type PG.

Definitely.

It took a very smart coach (Huggins) and a whole team playing a very effective zone (WVU) to send him and the Cats home.
We didn't lose that game because WVU kept John Wall out of the lane. We lost that game because we kept trying to shoot 3s. If we would have just ignored the outside shot and exploited our advantage inside.... who knows. But we lost that game taking 32 3-pointers.

I can buy it since he said "was", so I'm guessing he means high school level. Means very little though, not knowing the level of competition. I'd take a slightly worse Wall for sure lol i take these comparisons with a grain of salt either way. Being a good high school player means ish to us really, it just builds our hype a little.

And a very ineffective zone offense that seemingly relied solely on jumpshots. What did we shoot from deep that game? 2 or 3 for 30-something, maybe? Abysmally bad, whatever the exact #'s. Especially egregious considering we had Cuz and PP at the 4/5 spots.

Wall could flip a switch and put a game away, even if there was lots of time remaining. If TC has that quality about him I’ll be elated.

I look forward to a battle between freshman Clarke and sophomore Scottie Lewis.

I think the UF game will be decided inside with Sarr vs. Payne, if Sarr is allowed to play.

I don’t think Payne can handle Sarr inside. Our perimeter is pretty close.

G Mintz > Appleby
G Clarke > Locke
G Boston > Lewis
F Brooks < Johnson
F Sarr > Payne

UK also has a slightly better bench and a much better coach, IMHO.

I only see one spot where UF has a distinct advantage and that is at PF. I really like Johnson. Such a scrappy player. He’s better than Brooks even though he gives up 2-3 inches.

I’m sure Gator fans will disagree with everything except for what I said about Johnson.

I could be having an old guy thought here but didn't WVA only made 3 pointers in the first half and no 2 pointers?
Here’s the box score. UK’s FT shooting was horrific too.
West Virginia's rugged, experienced squad manhandled the Cats all evening, frustrating them unlike any team had done all season. The Mountaineers' length in a 1-3-1 zone forced UK to shoot from outside where they misfired in epic proportions (4-of-32) and collapsed from the free throw line (16-of-29), another season-long Achilles' heel.

Because of a 1-3-1 zone.

The dude didn't say Clarke was the better player, only that Wall couldn't score like Clarke which is probably correct. Wall could drive the ball as well as any player I have seen at UK in a long time, but shooting the ball wasn't ever Walls game. Wall was the man coming into college basketball and proved it wasn't all hype. The good news is I expect Clarke to do the same. Clarke can do whatever he wants on the court and will be among the best if we actually have a season played.

Whether he's as good as wall idk because he's not a true point guard but Clarke is the real deal he looks like victor oladipo. Boston same thing we haven't had two guys that are this prolific since fox and monk. I don't expect our team to lose very often next season this is some class
