I know this is incredibly early to start talking about Towns being an All-Star, let alone competing for the MVP (which Davis is sure to win multiple times in his career, as he will likely be the best basketball player in the world in a couple of years), but does anybody think that Towns could elevate to that status at any point? Both can shoot, both can rebound well, both can block shots, both can pass it very well, both dribble very well. Edge obviously goes to Davis because he's quite a bit faster than Towns, and quite a bit more athletic overall (not to mention, he's hands down the best shot-blocker in the NBA today, at age 22). Anybody think that Towns will be a top 5 player in the league, and will see his share of MVP awards?

MVP is very situational. Steve Nash won 2 playing in the Suns system, and nobody confused him with being the best player in the league.

You could basically say the same about Curry this year, although he finished the job and helped his team to the title. Still, no one considers Curry the best in the league. Some would rank him second, but most wouldn't even go that far.

I'll be surprised if Towns is ever the best player in the league. But I think he can be a Lamarcus Aldridge type - an all-star capable of being first team all NBA.

That being said, if he finds himself in the right situation to lead a team to the top of the standings, an MVP award isn't out of the question.

I'll tell you this if Karl continues on the track that Cal put him on, and that is to become a true center in the league I think he can be an all star, maybe mvp-esque player, if he goes to a team that lets him be that soft hybrid big he wants to be then no.

Nothing wrong with being hybrid. Obviously I agree that he needs to play inside-out, and not outside-in, but he has a very well rounded skill-set. That said though, he may very well be a PF in the league, in Minnesota. He's gonna have to do a bit of everything. He's going to have to shoot threes, he's gonna have to back his man down in the post, he's going to have to make good passes, put the ball on the floor, defend in the post as well as out toward the perimeter, so on and so forth. All of which he's capable of.

Agreed on a lot of points. I think Towns has potential to be top 5. I don't think he'll ever be the best in the league, simply because Davis will be there for much of Towns' career. I think a Aldridge-type career is a good comparison. Curious to see who becomes the star for Minnesota.

Please Minnesota fall in love with okafor. As a lakers fan I need to see kat in purple and gold.

Man, Minnesota is looking to be set up VERY nice for years to come...

Rubio
Lavine
Wiggins
Towns
Bennett
Dieng
Shabazz
Pekovic (if he can get/stay healthy)

I like that roster a lot.

Need some shooters.

Duncan won back to back MVPs, I think KAT has the potential to be even better.

They've still got Kevin Martin...he and Shabazz shoot around 40% from 3 and Lavine around 35%. Not Korver numbers, but not terrible.

Rubio is 31% for his career from 3.

Lavine was 34% as a rookie. It would help them a lot if he could get into the high 30's.

Shabazz shot 39% on 51 attempts. If he can keep that up over a larger sample it would be great.

Rubio is fun to watch, but they could really use a shooter at that spot. Mind-blowing that Minny drafted both Rubio and Jonny Flynn in front of Steph Curry in 2009. But then, that's why they're the T-Wolves.

Martin is a great veteran scorer in front of Lavine...he'll help bring him along nicely I would think. Wonder who they could target instead of Rubio?

Not sure what they have in mind. They are probably still hopeful that Rubio will work out. He is entertaining.
