What's funny is that Target sells the same shit as Walmart and the perception of the two is night and day.

It's not *what* wal mart sells. It's how they sell it. The layout of the store. The layout of the parking lot. The ambiance. The way you just sort of sigh when you walk in and hope you can hurry through the messy aisles and around the whale in the scooter without making eye contact with anyone and hope that the speedy checkout line is under 5 deep and that the person in front of you doesn't bother you and when you walk out you can avoid the fire fighters or the Girl Scouts or the Boy Scouts or the national guard asking for money. And then after you walk 600 yards to your car and the 200 yards to the cart corral someone backs in to you and you swear you'll never come back. And then 3 hours later you realize you're out of swiffer pads and boom. You're back baby.
I agree Wal-Mart is a miserable experience and I try to avoid going there when possible.
But dammit, its 11:30 pm and I need diapers and a car battery. There is no other place in the world that can accomodate that. This is the true genius of Wal-Mart.

Correct! If you come to the U.S....to be a citizen I think it ought to be a mandate that you must learn English. If you want to work a public job learn the language. That's not racism...that's fair. How can you hold a public job & not speak the public's language?
Pretty simple really. Go early in the morning or late at night and it's a pleasant experience. Oftentimes I stop at the local supercenter on the way to work around 7:30.. Got the whole place to yourself.. And all the aisles are fully/freshly stocked. And if I'm only grabbing a few items I just zip through the self checkout. Now stopping after work at rush hour, that's a whole different ballgame.
I started raising my own food and making a real effort to buy American. Walmart can go to hell and take all of that shit from China with them.

The funny thing is that the west end of Louisville practically begged Walmart to come in. They begged for those "non living wage" jobs. Actually allowed Walmart an exception to the building codes just so they would put a store in. If it is so bad, why are they begging the company to put a store in there? Why would they want to work there?
I've read a few mentions about how the low wages at WalMart are detrimental to local areas but this gives a national picture.

Amen to that. Soon there is going to be a Meijer in Etown to go along with those two. I haven't been to WM in quite a while.
I used to shop at Wal Mart fairly consistently a few years ago. Now I hardly ever go there unless I have no other choice. I would rather spend a little more money at Kroger just so my shopping experience is better than go to Wally World.
Plus, the women who shop at Kroger and Target are 10x better looking than what Wal Mart has to offer.

I read somewhere Wally World actually increased product sourcing within the USA. Unsure if true or not. Meh, we only shop there about 2x per year, if that often. My ex has worked at Wal-Mart for over 10 years, now. For the area where she resides, her earnings are decent.
Made my last trip to WM about 5 years ago. My son had gone camping and someone slashed his tires. It was a Sunday and the only place that was open near where he was camping was a WM. He didn't have the cash for a set of tires and didn't have any credit cards with him. The local WM told him that I could go to the nearest WM to him and pay for the tires.
The local WM told me they couldn't take payment for the tires but for like $35 I could wire him the money. They wouldn't take my credit card over the phone even though I was standing in WM and the store manager could verify my identity.
I told them that it was freaking amazing that billions of $$ of commerce took place every day where credit card payments were taken over the phone but the freaking largest retailer in the world couldn't do it.
I finally raised enough hell that they agreed to do the wire transfer and write off the cost. I told the manager and I wrote a letter to WM corporate hq about the incident and vowed I would never step foot in one of their stores again. They sent me a $25 gift card with a letter apologizing but insisting that the manager had properly followed corporate procedures. I dropped the gift card in the Salvation Army bucket that Christmas.
