Potential Nasty Weather

Anyone else love snow? Be on the lookout for the weekend of January 5th :)
the predictions are all over the place. One app says up to 14 inches on Sunday and 8 on Monday. Another says 1 to 3 on Sunday and less than 1 on Monday. Another has something completely different.

I just stick to Wunderground. That way I can be super excited, and equally let down. Evens things out. :)

I hope we don’t end up with a freeze that damages or kills landscape plants like a couple years ago. That was harsh.

Bobby Hill & Uncle Fester at WKYT say sunny & 85 degrees with a chance of thunderstorms, tornadoes or maybe an ice storm.

I like it but we are not due any. It snows maybe once a year here other than light dustings here and there. Below is last years visitor on the only snow day. Second picture is with my daughter who is 5'7" for scale. If we get enough snow, we always build one.

Agree. The Weather Channel predicts up to a foot. Alexa only 1-inch. Local channel 60% chance of snow.

I don't think I've built a snowman since the '80s.

I think the next time we get snow I'm going to do it
.
Thanks for the inspiration.

Hoping for all snow and no ice but ice is looking more and more likely. The ice storms of 2003 and 2009 (I think these are the correct years) were bad.

I loved snow as a kid. Then I grew up and got a job that involves a commute. Now it gives me anxiety. Ice is a whole other monster. That stuff scares me. Yay adulthood.
I have a job that involves a commute, too, and will NEVER stop loving snow, nor am I afraid to drive in it or on ice. Helps that I've been to places that get a lot more of both.

Guys I follow haven't posted their totals yet until this evening. Ice line could still shift more south, which would mean more snow for Frankfort. I don't mind the 7 inches of snow we might get, just the 1/2'' of ice that worries me more... Some friends in Ohio might see a foot of snow as well as some family that lives in Indiana might see a lot of snow.

Seems like everything is moving towards a southern turn which would be mean more snow for the northern counties of KY and ice around BG area. I would take a ton of snow over a half inch of ice.

I was at Kroger yesterday getting dog food and its in the back corner near the dairy. Zero milk available. Crazy.

My biggest concern is for my 90-year old Dad if there's a power outage due to ice. He lives in the back of an unincorporated neighborhood so no snow/ice removal services. Plus his driveway is very steep. I can shovel snow with no problem. Ice is almost impossible and treacherous. He's too stubborn to leave his house but he may not have a choice if it gets down to single digits. Tomorrow we should have a better idea of what to expect. If there's a high risk of power outages then we'll get him out of there somehow before the storm hits. We'd love to have him stay with us but my sister has a better set-up. Fingers crossed.

1993 was the year that we got that massive snowstorm, wasn't it?

We had a legit blizzard in March of 1993. It hit the Friday night UK beat UT 101-40 in the SEC Tournament, but was gone by middle of the next week.

In 1994, the Sunday before MLK Day saw local weather forecasters call for an overnight dusting. We woke up to 16 inches in the Lexington area. Then it turned bitterly cold. That storm paralyzed the state. Governor shut the interstates down for a day or two.

A couple weeks later, there was a 70 degree day in February, then an insane temperature plunge followed by an ice storm and loss of power for days/weeks. The winter of 1994 didn’t mess around.

I was 22-23 around that time and remember the winter storms well. I lived in an Apartment Complex off Kirklevington and each day a separate group of residents with tasked with the duty of taking the sled to Thornton's on Redding Rd and loading it up with Beer.

It was like the world was shut down and it was a blast. We had nowhere to go and a lot of fun ensued.
