Post Mizzou pressers_Pope, Carr, Brea and Dennis Gates

This was such a massive win for so many reasons. It probably ranks behind duke, @ Tennessee and maybe Florida, but this win has to be right behind those.
The Gonzaga win might fit in there ahead of this one, but not in my opinion, Missouri is better.

It's interesting how Gates called out the refs for not calling fouls on UK. I didn't think coaches could do that without getting fined.
But I can point to several plays where we got fouled and didn't get the call, but honestly, I thought the refs did a pretty good job.

I thought officiating was decent
More of what we would consider home court as opposed to blatantly making sure we didn’t have a chance

"The Focus was defensively"
defense, defense, defense.
hmmm

I noted that Coach Fox was the lead coach on scouting them. I think the effort the guys put forth in the game was indicative of a very well researched and scouted team effort. The guys executed with poise, did extremely well with their assignments. Just an extraordinary job all around.

Funny, Butler did what I said he should do the second half. Did not really play defense. Only way to not let the refs get him out of the game after two weak fouls was called on him. I said that he should just not play defense because we need him more on offense. And it was funny watching him to not give the refs any excuse to call a foul on him. I know it frustrated the refs and Gates with him playing that way. So kudos to Butler playing like he did the second half. Also, our bigs had to just let Mitchell shoot around the rim all day because any movement of going for a block was an automatic foul called. So considering how we could only play defense half speed we did as good of a job as we could have done. Almost a miracle winning there with Daily calling the shots.

Yup, Pope gave them a path to make two's over length, but took away their threes, especially from Caleb Grill.
It required our shooters to make shots and Carr to do his thing and our guys did their jobs to damn near perfection.
But the other thing is, Pope made big adjustments on the fly. He didn't wait to "watch the tape", he saw what Missouri was doing defendively and he made adjustments that they couldn't stop. Absolutely brilliant in-game coaching.

I listened long enough to hear him blame the loss on us getting to shoot free throws. Lame.
Every coach thinks their team is getting screwed by the refs just like every fanbase thinks their team is getting screwed by the refs. The thing that bothers me about Gates is that obnoxious temperament he keeps 24/7. Stink eye all the time.

With refs that let them play Williams would have literally blocked most of Mitchell's shots. All the refs allowed was staying in front of their players but very little freedom to block shots or gets steals. Loved it when one of their players drove to the basket and Butler just stood still with his arms next to his body and the player just drove by him for an open layup. The kind of play the refs was drooling for to get Butler on another foul.

If we can just keep our players on the floor the whole time we can beat anyone most of the time. A lot of people look at the foul discrepancy on the stats but the box score has no stats for us not being allowed to play defense with any aggression. Agree the second half coaching for us was brilliant with the adjustments and thankfully we hit three's like we expect every game with the shooters we have.

Williams has turned into a man to deal with the way he is playing D and rebounding. Givens pointed out it is hard to have Williams off the floor because of his rim protecting. He said when he was in the game he makes it hard for teams to challenge on drives and a lot of times they don't even try anymore.
