Possible OC Replacement?

Imo something to keep in perspective: Any oc or ol coach change would be be the 4th in 4 years. Imo any replacement needs to be heads and shoulders better than who we have and committed to no less than 2 years. We simply cannot have a new scheme every year or two.

With that said:

1) I don't see us changing ocs. Imo he's shown plenty enough given the ol limitations. We looked way better on the OL after we simplified some things and we looked way better overall given the simplifications and the reintroduction of will running the ball. I'd feel alot better if we keep it going the next two games.

The other thing to consider is the staff is banking on scang to bring in the next transfer QB based on his relationships.

2) I'm from a solid "fire yenser" to "let's see what happens the next two games". Since the simplifications, we look like an entirely different OL. Maybe that's what it took. Let's see what happens the next two games.

3) hiring someone like Hartline isn't the answer. Even if we somehow got him, Hartline is a college coaching star and we would be looking for another oc and yet another scheme in a year or two. We can't keep changing schemes.

4) we need to stay in the McVey/shanahan coaching tree. That let's us hire a new guy every few years as needed while also keeping continuity of scheme. That way we can recruit to the scheme and promise recruits that scheme will be in place.

Unless, Scang gets an nfl gig, I’d say he is probably staying. However, it’s always good to have a list ready…see Matt House and Liam Coen. The program isn’t always the party doing the dumping.

I dont think we can let coaching talent turnover scare us off though. Nobody worth anything is lining up to be the OC at UK for long term. It’s a perfect gig to do what LC did and what I think Scang is ultimately doing. Now ideally it’s not such a quick turnover. I think we all new LC would be back in the league eventually.

if you want a program type of OC who’s going to hang around and provide stability you almost have to go looking for older guys who have been around, maybe they’re in the booth right now, maybe there slightly washed and have been booted from a gig or two…maybe they’re fishing like papaw brooks was when MB drug him out of retirement.

I think the chances of Coach Scang getting a second year are slim. 93 ranked offence in all of college football. Bottom 10 in red zone scoring. 14 (worst) in total offense in the SEC. Coach Stoops has a hard sell to a lot of offence players here and recruits if he brings back a woful, putrid OC scheme that had NFL caliber OB, RB, Tight Ends, Center and 2 maybe 3 wideouts. What would the selling point be. Very doubtful the OC will have this much talent next year? Coach Stoops has a decision on overall offensive philosophy to make that may well decide the next 3 or 4 years success or not?

I agree. That's why I think we must keep going back to the rams tree. That way we at least have scheme continuity in spite of coaching turnover

Unless Scang gets a NFL gig? I'm not sure if the NFL is going to be hell-bent on poaching him, if their decision makers watch our film.

There a reason the NFL scouts are appaulding Levis and his toughness getting all those sacks and still being able to produce. They understand that UK lost 3 experienced lineman. That being said, seems the play calling is playing not to lose instead of playing to win. At times this year it seemed as though we were playing scared on offense. Sometimes it needs to be loosened up and let your athletes do their thing. There has been improvement in the OL since the start of the season. Maybe the schemes were to complicated, after all NFL players have years of experience, and these kids are still learning.

Liam coen is option number one if he is available. After that it may be time for Kentucky to commit to the Gimmick crap and find a coordinator from that type of system
Absolutely not. You can’t wait till the NFL season is over. Fire and hire has to be within 10 days of season ending. Coen would be a disaster waiting that long.

Why would Coen be a disaster? And please don’t say because of signing day in December. It will have no effect on next years team. If we can get Coen back it would be anything but a disaster. Geez. The guy is really good

Here is one band that would be great. I have no idea what he is doing now..Chris Petersen. Mitch might get him out of retirement by offering him something as crazy as he just did Stoops. Petersen would be a home run. Great mind. Don’t know if he still wants to recruit. Make the call.

and he's a strong recruiter.

TV analyst.

It doesn’t matter who comes in, Stoops’ foot print will be all over it. Stoops has never realize that today it is passing game that wins. He must bring in someone and tell them to run same scheme that got them where he was attracted to their record.

Brian Hartline will be a guy who is talked about for some serious OC jobs this offseason. Will be interesting to see if OSU promotes him and pays him. He’ll be on some HC lists in the not so distant future as well.

If Scang is gone, BH should be first call.
This is quite an angle. Is Mike coaching too? I could get down with the Hartlines hooking up with the Stoopses. Could eventually result in a neat pass of baton. It would definitely preserve the "reach across the river" local recruiting philosophy.

Stoops is never going to allow a quick strike offense to exist here. Sure we will break a big play off here and there but that’s not what he wants. Scoring on the first play from scrimmage is his worst nightmare, he absolutely hates scoring fast. Don’t even think he gets remotely excited on a quick score unless it’s like the first play of the game before the defense has even taken the field. Just an odd persona to have as a coach.

Well you clearly don’t know college football if you don’t think it won’t have an affect on recruiting. It 10000% will. It also has a MASSIVE affect on the transfer portal and who we can bring in. Waiting to bring Coen back on a “maybe” is the disaster.

They got upset but not because of the offense
Not sure how much is coaching and how much is the QB ability but NC QB is how you define pocket presence. Also like the FL ST QB, another with great pocket presence. Guys that can and will run if needed, buy time and not scared of getting hurt. Kind of QB we need with an open OC.

I don’t know if Mike coaches…but I do know Stoops loves him some Ohio connections and the Hartline Bros have ‘em in spades…

Again, Mike Hartline was moved from offensive analyst to on-field QB Coach at Auburn after the Auburn HC was fired. Safe to say he's building his resume.

Knowing what we know about Stoops, I think the bigger issue is going to be the OLine coach. If we can restore the Big Blue Wall then every type of offense we could run will be better. As for the OC, personally I hope we get someone who runs something akin to Michigan's offense. An old school, run focused offense that bullies the other team and grinds them down. That is what Stoops is going to be more comfortable with, and if it is done correctly, it can be incredibly effective.
