Positivity?

A few positives:

~TJ Collett has seemed to become a pretty decent first baseman.

~Cole Stupp looks the part of a good Friday night starter. The last two outings have been rough though

~Coltyn Kessler has been a huge surprise. Especially starting the year off on the bench.

I think Sean Harney should have been in the rotation from the start.

That’s about all I got.

That is an interesting point. I kind of like Harney out of the pen, but it seems like the staff may have been under utilizing him some. Hazelwood was going to be pretty strong on Saturdays, so I think having him there would have been solid. The question then becomes... who is a better out of the pen pitcher, Harney or Lee? Who handles it better mentally? If it is Harney, then it is acceptable to have Lee stay the Sunday guy. If it is Lee, then we now know we get a pretty good one for Sunday. Overall, it would have been very good given that we could have a fourth pitcher to rely on to start if we needed it, if we made the post season.

All good points here. Losing Hazelwood hurts more than I think people realize. Would the SEC record be any different with him on Saturday? I think so.

One thing I’m curious about is what happened to Hagenow? Has he pitched the last two weeks?

I have not heard that Hagenow is or was injured. With that being the case, I am going to do the bad thing and jump to the conclusion that we're not using him very well.

Prior to Tuesday Hagenow hadn't pitched since his start against LSU on 4.10. So, he went 17 days without pitching. They then pitched him against EKU and he went 0.1 innings, gave up a hit and an unearned run and threw just 16 pitches. So, not sure why he hasn't gotten more chances. Heck, he should have probably pitched this past weekend in one of those big losses. Allow your 'stud,' to play in front of his home crowd, and likely wouldn't have hurt our chances at winning.

Not sure when UK will use him again... no midweek and we play Florida (who just took 2 of 3 from Vandy) this weekend, so it seems unlikely that UK would use him a lot this weekend. Would just like to see us use him and get him through the growing pains, especially in some games or situations where we know it is just for the experience.

I'll bite:

-Moments of goodness from the weekend staff. Stupp looked great against UGA but the wheels have fallen off the track last two weeks. Lee looked amazing against Alabama, but not so much last week.
-Kessler has been great. Collett has been great at the plate and at 1B. Ritter has been a defensive sensation and is improving at the plate.
-Winning a game apiece against UT and UL.
-Three SEC series wins.

The current lineup has worked well.....

Confused on Estep/Lewis and Hill/Schultz?

An important thing for outfielders is communication. It is key. You need to know where your friends are, you need them to help with where they (and you) are, and you need to trust one another. I think Schultz at times struggled with this communication and so at times it wasn't clear to either left or right where they were, how close to the wall, how well they were on a ball depth wise, etc. So, I think this finally came to a head this past weekend and it became best to move him to left so that the communication wasn't as much of an issue.

Second is an intriguing spot. After this weekend, Lewis will continue to start there. We will see how he does. Allegedly he had a thumb injury, but I don't think I had heard anything about it prior to this weekend, so I am not sure the extent of it.

Re Hagenow, the way he's been used recently tells me he's dealing with some kind of tenderness be it elbow or shoulder. Maybe we'll learn more at season's end.

Anyone got anything?

I'll start... starting pitching is somehow not as bad as I thought it would be.

TJ Collett is an above average defensive first baseman.
We aren’t going to finish in last place as we were picked pre-season.

1. Collett has had a good season all around.
2. Ritter been pretty solid at SS.
3. Kessler has had a good season all around.
4. Schultz is a better than average lead off man.

That's what I'd think as well, but haven't heard anyone mention it.
