** Kentucky extended an offer to UCONN WR Brock Montgomery but I am told he's a wait and see guy. Kentucky will apparently be bringing in a number of visitors this weekend and I get the sense perhaps some receivers. This offer is very big for him. He's got Duke and Michigan State showing interest as well.

** I get the sense that UK has a lot of work to do at WR. Not only starters but some backups. That is why they can probably be more aggressive with some of these offers early.

** One issue they are facing is the wide receivers they are recruiting want to know who the quarterback is going to be.

** On that point, he is not in the portal yet, but I am interested in Incarnate Word quarterback Zach Calzada. There's been talk he could be going back into the portal. Previously at Auburn and Texas A&M. He is someone I will be paying attention to. Has talent and schools will be interested.

Has Calzada improved? He was very bad in the SEC.

That is a very poor evaluation at QB

@JRowland have you heard if the staff is looking at the portal thinking they have one shot to fix this or if they believe they have 2-3yrs to turn things back around?

Can someone explain to me, the logic of offering a mid major receiver with no demonstrated performance whatsoever? I understand the stoops administration has evolved into a clown operation, but this appears to go even further than that.

I don't even have a joke for this, it's just "here's the transfer update" and the first guy out the gate is a reach. I'm tired.

Gotta get QB and a WR coach before WRs are really going to knock down the door. The biggest thing is OL. A good OL can help an average QB be good and a bad one will make a QB terrible. Prime Tom Brady would have struggled in some of our games (SCar). Until we get commits I'm not worried about the "offers". The elites aren't going to announce all their offers and the ones that are reaches are going to post wait and see offers as committable. Getting up in arms just isn't worth it.

Should we go get another D1 bust transfer at QB?
No… we shore up that Oline the best we possibly can and give Boley the time he needs to make the reads and throws. I think BVG and Leary for that matter would’ve done much better if they had protection. Look at Levis… his second season he was running all over the place and banged up because of the Oline. I will not call any of the D1 transfers a bust simply because we had no protection for them.

An *attempt* to fix this mess. Obviously I don't expect it to work out. But it's like they're not even trying lol
I would say they are trying. But it’s really difficult to patch up a sinking ship.

BVG had issues beyond OL pass protection (like locking on to one WR, and/or holding on to the ball too long) but I get your point.

OL has to be priority #1 and I’m certain it is. We may not like the direction of the program but these coaches aren’t dumb.

But we also need some help at WR - so establishing our QB room is important. Stoops probably should build around Boley, but our QB room will be Boley and two true freshman next fall. We gotta bring in someone to help with depth.

In what world do you spend NIL money on someone like Calzada. Maybe he is marginally better than Cutter and sure you need back ups but not at that price.

After a couple days of thinking maybe Stoops can turn it around and be competitive next season, these updates and the report of no other staff changes, I’m back to 4-8 at best. Wasting time til we can afford to can him.
