Pope wants to play blue bloods and other heavyweights home and home

Yes, these neutral site games need to stop. We need to be able to play a UCONN at Rupp, then return to Storres the following year. We need Duke in Rupp and UK at Cameron. It would be awesome as a fan to see this kind of stuff again. I remember Villanova in Rupp with Tim Thomas on their team. That arena was rocking and loud. David Robinson in Rupp was huge, yeah Navy not a big name but the story was big.

i always preferred the neutral site games. we get more fans there. it’s always going to be in a major city. it’s usually a good environment that models a tourney situation. for this reason alone, i kind of wish we’d get back to a couple domes as well.

for me, the one exception is duke. we need to check that box at some point.

I wish we would go to playing the SEC teams one time each

That would free up 3 games to schedule against real basketball schools.
I've had that same thought. Unbalanced schedules are inherently unfair: some teams are going to play the weakest teams twice, some teams will draw the toughest team only once at home, etc. Going to one game schedule will still be a bit skewed but has a better chance of evening out over the long-haul. Freeing up 3 slots for out-of-conference home and home's is icing on the cake.

He won't get Duke, they never schedule other bluebloods on the road unless they're forced to. The only time Duke played in Rupp was in the tourney, and lost.

Let's name a few classics at Rupp. Syracuse with Derrick Coleman, Sherman Douglas and Rony Seikaly in 1988. Phi Slamma Jamma with Olajuwon in 1984. UNC in 2011. The home atmosphere for those games is off the charts.

I’d love for all the blue bloods to play consistently each year. It will only help college basketball to see the best programs playing.

can we agree though Louisville and Indiana don’t belong? We play Louisville anyway but neither team has done much in the last decade.

People will pay it, no doubt, but scheduling multiple bluebloods at home will promote a sizable ticket increase ... it seems to me.

Between this and playing n a ooc tournament n the future the schedules will be tough. On top of the sec. I'm all for more interesting ooc opponents though.
