Pope said he was disappointed that the team didn't take more than 25 threes tonight.

Also, I didn't know this was the first UK team in history to make at least 10 threes in their first four games of a season. Said he is going to call the '96 Wildcat teammates and ask how it was possible they didn't make that many! :)

Cal used to brag whenever his teams took 25 threes in a game. Pope, on the other hand, laments a game where his guys don't take 35 threes in a game.

The man is a genius. He was breaking down Butler and Brea's games and also mentioned points per possession like he is the Rain Man of basketball IQ.

Good stuff.

I’m going to say we might have the smartest basketball coach in the country right now.
We do have the smartest coach in college basketball. His post game remarks show how he knows all the finer points and skills needed to play all aspects of the game. I’ve never heard another coach breakdown the specifics of the game like he does. Also if you notice he never creates negative energy on the sidelines during timeouts. I don’t think you could ask for anymore in a coach than what Pope has done and shown.

The 1996 team only took 28% of the their shots from 3. Pitino's teams trended down in their 3 point rate during his time here. It was around 40% in 1994 for reference.
