Pope is an honest guy he tells it like it is, I figured Perry would have been at Ky for 3 or 4 years, Perry played alot last year because of all the injuries. With the portal the way it is not sure how much he plays at Ole Miss.
TP will be fine.Very "classy" post from a first class coach and person! I am a huge Travis Perry and Coach Pope fan and was very disappointed that he transferred because I believe under Pope's tutelage coupled with Travis's work ethic and intelligence he would have developed into an outstanding college player. The reasons for his transfer are unknown to me. However, I have stated my opinion in a previous post on the factors I believe that contributed to this decision. My hope and expectations are that he will be completely successful at Ole Miss.
Many boardmembers have expressed concern that Travis's transfer from UK will minimize his potential work related or professional contacts and may adversely affect his livlihood in the future if he elects to settle in Ky. In my opinion these are unfounded concerns because he is blessed with high intelligence(honor student} and a strong work ethic which apparently he inherited from his parents. It should be noted that his father who is the Lyon Co head basketball coach is also the pharmicist for the Lyon county hospital and his mother is a beloved family practice physician in Eddyville. Obviously you don't earn a PharmD and an MD from UK without being very smart and posessing a great work ethic. In short, Travis is a winner and overacheiver who comes from a family of winners. He will be successful in whatever professional endeavor he chooses to pursue. I wish him great success and hope he scores 30 points a game to include the Uk ole Miss game!
Good luck to him. He’s still gonna get them boo boo minutes 🤨I just can’t believe he didn’t take the time to make a post about leaving. It seems pretty weak to me. Obviously it doesn’t really matter but almost everyone who leaves for the NBA or transfers usually does one. I figured him being home grown and a lifetime fan he would want to do
Great post. I agree with this 100%, As we've seen over the years, this board and other like it, give certain fans a forum to be complete and total jerks. We've seen a good example of that in this thread.I'm not saying Perry didn't get love at UK. He got a ton. Full stop. I'm saying there's likely a reason Perry didn't post anything. I'm also inferring that comments like four or five in this thread alone just taking pot shots and petty jabs at the kid are part of the reason why he left and part of the reason Perry didn't post anything. Not the whole reason. Part.
Perry's gone. No post or whatever is going to change that. I understand that. However, I think we really need to look ourselves in the mirror and wonder why some among us feel the need to sh*t talk a kid who grew up wanting to wear Kentucky blue, got the chance to wear Kentucky blue, and did the best he could in Kentucky blue with the situation he was given.
Hell, I was one of the ones who cheered for him this year. I wanted him to succeed. I just don't understand how some can be so spiteful and cruel to the point where one could have a hard time distinguishing between a troll and a fan. I get the anonymity and separation from reality that comes with the digital world, but it's not an excuse to be an asshole toward a teenager.
Just my 2¢.
He quit on UK, why would we want him back?Noah has embraced being a UK player more than Perry did. Maybe Perry will return one day.
Wait so your saying Pope lied or he is fullWhile I'm disappointed too, I can understand why he wouldn't make a post. He was thrown to the wolves before he was ready and the fans and trolls online ripped him a new ass.
"Thank you, BBN. I appreciate the time spent here. I've decided to enter the transfer portal, but I'll always be a Cat fan at heart."
Something like that, while providing closure for good fans, would be swamped with comments like...
"Go to D2. You nt good enuff to play at this level."
"Make sure you hit the portal unlike open threes."
"Hope you learn to play defense."
"Too slow to play at Kentucky."
And Lord knows what else. And for anyone saying that our fans aren't that bad... horses**t. I have eyes and social media. Yeah, he'd have a ton of positive comments, but to feel the betrayal of your fellow Kentuckians in the tons and tons of crappy comments would suck. For a kid, it'd reinforce every negative heard during the season and that they, themself, had learned to believe.
Pope says Perry didn't see a path for him on this team. BULL. I remember reading that Perry told Cal that he would become good enough that Coach'd have no choice but to play him. Whether there's three McD AAs in front of you or five transfers from random schools, the path to playing time is studded with bumps and digging oneself out of the depths of the roster. I just don't see how a mindset pivots so much.
Maybe fan noise had nothing to do with it, but I honestly can't see that being the case. It certainly wouldn't be the end-all-be-all, but still. I feel like not posting anything is testament to the impact of the digital space.
I don't question nor blame Perry leaving for more minutes and money. The person I DO question is Chris Beard.
Noah has embraced being a UK player more than Perry did. Maybe Perry will return one day.
Horse hockey. He didn’t leave because a vocal minority called out his poor play. If he did, then he’s far too thin skinned for this line of work. He should quit playing major college basketball if that got to him and played ANY role in his decision to leave. He left because he got recruited over and didn’t see a path to PT. And he wants to play. Good on him for that. I’d want players that want to play. I wished he’d have stayed. I wanted him to stay. He would’ve, in my opinion, developed into a sniper at UK. I think he wants more. And that’s ok. But not for a second do I think he left because some dipsticks with the ability to post or Tweet said mean stuff. But again, if that played a part, total weak sauce on his part.I'm not saying Perry didn't get love at UK. He got a ton. Full stop. I'm saying there's likely a reason Perry didn't post anything. I'm also inferring that comments like four or five in this thread alone just taking pot shots and petty jabs at the kid are part of the reason why he left and part of the reason Perry didn't post anything. Fans and just about anyone with a phone or keyboard can be a-holes. But seriously dude, if you’re a major college athlete and that stuff gets in your kitchen, this just isn’t for you.Great post. I agree with this 100%, As we've seen over the years, this board and other like it, give certain fans a forum to be complete and total jerks. We've seen a good example of that in this thread.
The dude has been a varsity ball player since he was in 7th grade. This is likely the first time in his life he’s been a failure. And make no mistake, I’d bet he views last year as a failure. That’s a tough thing to process for a guy like that. I don’t blame Pope for getting guys better at his position. I don’t blame TP for wanting to find a path to more PT. I hope he does SUPER well at Ole Miss, and honestly I think he’ll have a BEAUTIFUL three yrs there.Wait so your saying Pope lied or he is full
of shit when he said that about his departure? Because I gotta tell you I believe Pope on this one. also, there are reports out there he took less there than he was offered here which to me suggest Pope was honest and he didn’t see a path or didn’t wanna put in work for it. Those saying anyone complaining about the guy on these forums as an excuse not to talk to the 98% of his supporters is BS. First off he was paid more than most make in a very long time, so he is a professional player at UK. What did he expect? I’m not justifying it we should respect players, but if you’re suggesting he hid out because a small handful of people complained that’s trash and those justifying it for him shouldn’t be. To me it should be a courtesy to those that stood by him to say goodbye as he turns his back on BBN. I wish him well but I don’t have a desire to see him come back. He had his chance and he walked away vs putting in work here.
Perry gave it his all. He has skill and work ethic. He can’t control size speed and height no matter how much he works. He will put the ball in the hoop over there im sure. For some reason I can see him hitting a game winner on us in Rupp. Just our luckThe dude has been a varsity ball player since he was in 7th grade. LOL,no.
So did Pitino and tons of posters are begging for him to return. He quit on UK, why would we want him back?
Bad take if you can’t see the difference. When Perry saves the program he can come back to then. I guess. Fair if fair.So did Pitino and tons of posters are begging for him to return.
I don't think I like anyone alive or dead enough to hope they score thirty on us.Very "classy" post from a first class coach and person! Your point? So did Pitino and tons of posters are begging for him to return.
Yep, just goes to show you what players really think these days of their "home state" school, name on front of the jersey etc really means to them, almost zero- if he plays against us, I hope we go right at him on offense every play because not sure he can guard anyone in the SECI just can’t believe he didn’t take the time to make a post about leaving. It seems pretty weak to me. Obviously it doesn’t really matter, but almost everyone who leaves for the NBA or transfers usually does one. I figured him being home grown and a lifetime fan he would want to do that.
If the kid was THAT soft, he would NEVER be able to handle the pressure of playing at the University of Kentucky. Period. While I'm disappointed too, I can understand why he wouldn't make a post. He was thrown to the wolves before he was ready and the fans and trolls online ripped him a new ass.

Maybe. Might just take a while for him to get up to D1 speed. I dunno. If the kid was THAT soft, he would NEVER be able to handle the pressure of playing at the University of Kentucky. Period.
And he probably knew that better than any fan.
I just can’t believe he stayed in the SEC, I get feeling that way but if he can’t play in the league or earn minutes here, it’s not like Beard won’t try to recruit the best he can either.Think some of you either forgot the mindset of young kid/adult. Or never experienced what it was like to be the top dog at your school. Everything Perry has known until this point was success and yet for the first time in his life he wasn't the top dog or even close to it at Kentucky.
Then Pope rightly recruits over him the next season and Perry is staring at a developmental year with little playing time. I don't blame Perry one bit for wanting to find PT elsewhere. Sure it's nice for us to say he quit and he should have stuck it out but we really aren't thinking the way Perry is and that he wants to play bottom line.
I hope Ole Miss develops him gives him all the PT he can handle and hopefully he spurs them his Senior year and comes back to Kentucky. Some of you will not welcome him back but for DraftCat I understand the situation and he's welcome back in my book if chooses.

I know Beard really recruited him in HS and liked him a lot, I just don’t understand why he thinks he could do more there. Maybe he got PT promises. I’m sure money was a factor.I recall Perry having a previous relationship with Beard and he did transfer fairly late in the window. We don't know the specifics of course but yes a bit of a shocker I would have thought he'd of went to a mid-major college.

I’m sure I’ll catch a couple on SEC network or Super Tuesday or something. It's hard telling. You'll have to let me know I doubt I'll find myself watching many Ole Miss games.
I actually thought he made major progress during the season, and believe that he would have been a valuable piece of the puzzle going forward (as did MP), but, for whatever reason, TP chose to move on for what he thinks will be a better opportunity for him, and I also don't disagree with his thinking about that.Maybe. Might just take a while for him to get up to D1 speed. I dunno.
I think he’ll do fine with Beard. His dad was a hard nosed coach. We didn’t see it but TP is too. I’ll never forget watching that Sweet 16 Championship. They were double & triple teaming Noah anytime he touched the ball. Anytime he scored TP was cussing his teammates for it. lol.I actually thought he made major progress during the season, and believe that he would have been a valuable piece of the puzzle going forward (as did MP), but, for whatever reason, TP chose to move on for what he thinks will be a better opportunity for him, and I also don't disagree with his thinking about that.
Chris Beard's offense is much more suited for TP's game (strengths) than MP offense, IMO. Chris Beard will run enough screens in his half-court offense to get TP plenty of open looks from the 3 pt. line.
What will be interesting will be to see how TP responds to the HARD A$$ coaching that is fixing to come his way from Chris Beard. That dude is a Bobby Knight disciple, and I am not sure TP is ready for that kind of in-your-face coaching after playing for his dad since 3rd grade and then playing for the most positive, kind coach I have ever heard speak in CMP.
Sure hope TP can handle getting cursed at for making a mistake or getting yanked for missing a defensive assignment, because it is coming like a freight train for him. Chris Beard don't play nice with any of his players if they mess up.
