Pope contacts Maryland’s Gillespie

Names are getting checked off “the list” pretty quickly all of a sudden and zilch for UK.
It’s not that “early” in the portal season anymore.

You'll get push back on this, but it's kind of like being scoreless in the top of the 6th. There's time left, but we've done almost nothing aside from Kam Williams.. thats pretty concerning for a top3 basketball program, an upcoming coach, and quite a bit of NIL money.

Starting to think Kentucky might just have to flat out overpay for guys. If Gillipsie is getting say $2mil at both Kentucky and Tennessee, but he's from Knoxville, then tie goes to the runner. Same with several other guys who are picking their home colleges it seems.

We simply have to pay for our success, this can't be said enough. Relying on tradition or our fans will not cut it.

Apparently UK with top money just isn’t a destination anymore. What in the world is going on with all of these tops players going elsewhere?

Eaglestaff shot 35% from 3 on a team that went 12-21 in the Summit League

What double standard are you speaking of?
Rice sot 37% from 3 last year, just about the same as Eaglestaff who was the only scorer on his team
Rice's overall fg % was 43% & he had more talented players around him

Eaglestaff shot 41% against the Summit League. Rice played against much better competition. Not sure what your point is.

Top money is a good thing, but a coach still must be a strong recruiter. A coach that can flat out recruit can get kids for less money than other schools.. Tn, Bama, and Auburn can get kids for less money than a school that does not have a top top recruiting coach and staff. Those three teams in the SEC are the teams that have top recruiting staff.

Doesn’t matter let me know the last time they made a final 4 I’ll hang up and listen…
This is a new era. We are talking about future, not past.
NIL and portal is changing everything, and I do mean changing everything.
It's not a coincidence they got to the elite 8 back to back In the last 2 years. It's not like they have some curse or spell that says they will never make a final 4 in the future. The reason they never made it in the past is they never really had consistently good teams year in and year out. That's changed.
They keep recruiting strong, and statistically it's just a matter of time.
Now, If Barnss was to retire than they could whiff in their next coaching hire and that could set them back ( and that what I am hoping on), but as long as they keep having strong recruiting classes they are always going to be in the mix.
If KY was smart they would make a significant offer at Gillespie. He's the type of player that could take any team to that next level.
Would be awesome to have him here.

This. It absolutely happens. Honestly, I really can't understand how Gillespie goes there this year other than recruiting and having some ties to Tennessee. He could certainly make more money at another school.

Absolutely a take. Even if there were something to Braden Smith transferring which I still don’t buy, I wouldn’t wait on it if Gillespie is ready to sign.
