Please be Respectful to Damien Harris

I feel the same way about 5 star basketball players if they leave our state they have rejected our values and I wish them well with the values of the state and program they have adopted! I think Damien Harris should know if he goes out of the state then look to his new state for admiration. I'll never think or talk about him as highly as I will of Tim Couch or Moe Williams regardless of his career success. Hell the Dawson kid I have no idea how he did after he rejected us and I damn sure don't want him coming back to Kentucky telling us how they do it out west.

When basketball players come here they are now ours, come home any time!!!
I had completely forgot about Dawson and had to Google his name to even remember who he was and where he went to school!

If DH chooses UK, awesome, if not, then wish him well, but move on to. I had posted earlier that I would be a temporary Bama fan if he chooses them, but to H-ll with that, UK or no one!
Dawson was a high ranked LB from Boyle County Kentucky that went Hollywood to USC spurning the efforts of his ex coach Smith who was UKs LB coach to recruit him. Just another of the high rated instate players that UK seems to have difficulty keeping in state.

I would be respectful out of the simple fact that Damien could flip between now and signing day or he could transfer back when he realizes but he's not going to get much PT at Alabama.

I sat by him at the Blue White game. Courteous young man.

Also talked to his mother for about five minutes at the QB club with his little sister (cute as a button) tugging at my UK coat.

These are fine people folks with a major decision to make. I wish him well whatever his decision is and hope the best for him.

Good post OP.

Lou

So you don't think he is as good as Mark Ingram, Trent Richardson, Derrick Henry or TJ Yeldon because all of those guys got significant PT at Bama as freshman and none of them were rated as the #1 RB in their class?

I don't know if you realize but what you and others saying the same thing is disrespectful do Damien. If he is truly the best RB in the class he will see significant PT regardless of where he goes to school.

Look, I want him at UK. I think he picks UK but I don't want him to pick UK because he thinks he will play more at UK than Bama. If I'm the top rated player at my position then I welcome competition because I have the self-confidence to know that I will prevail.

Any comparison here to Jalen Hurd and Tennessee? Grew up close to Knoxville. 5 star running back. Went to UT who had not been to a bowl game since 2009 and had a losing record in consecutive years. Had a great game in leading UT to their bowl win over Iowa. Just saying.......

I want him to be a Cat, but wish him the best whatever he chooses. I just hope this is not like the debacle several years ago with the UL QB who kept tempting us while all along there was no question as to where he was going.

This has to be a difficult decision for the young man and his family. I wish him the best in life either way.

GO CATS

To those who will be upset if it's not UK,....It came down to Bama and UK. Be glad to where we where and where we are now. He appears to be a very good kid. Wish him the best in what ever he chooses too do. What I see is most of you will.

I think that it is slim to none the he will end up a Cat. If he chose to come here he would be a difference maker for the up and coming Kentucky program and become a special player that would be looked up to for the rest of his life. Tim Couch will never be forgotten. At Bama he will just become another five star player lost into the sea of the very best players that Alabama routinely signs. If he chooses Kentucky it will be the tougher road for him,but in the end he will become a hero within the State. If he chooses Alabama he will become another talented player just like the thousands that played there before him. Tough choice.

Not a tough choice! I'm a Kentuckian with all it glory and responsibility. If I don't like what it has to offer I can change it or run off and take care of my own interest. Thats fine I don't begrudge those that want to be part of something else but I also don't waste effort or heap praise on them because what I pull for has so much to offer.

Of course I will be respectful. I will be cheering for him with the other 55 thousand at the renovated Commonwealth every Saturday for the next 2-3 years (when he moves on to the NFL!)

Go Cats!

I don't pull for any of our rivals players to do well and by choosing Bama over KY he has switched his allegiance from our program and state and I would never treat him like anything other than a rival player. Hell he would deserve more respect if he chose UL at least there are a ton of fans here pulling for them, but even there I hope those local guys don't do well because it just dims the attraction to UK. Furthermore we don't need some slug posting a thread telling us how to act. If we want to share our opinions about how to act heres mine; act like your gf just dumped you, act like a friend just sold you down the river, act like you think he just made the dumbest decision you ever saw and as a KY fan you would never understand how anybody could pick anyone other than KY.
Excellent post....It is so arrogant for people like the OP to talk down to posters and TELL THEM how to feel about a situation. I'll be angry as hell if Harris picks Bama over UK. That is a knife to the heart of our program. Harris is crucial for us taking the next step as a program. OP, don't talk down to us and tell us how to feel about an in-state player possibly leaving to play elsewhere....

IMHO if Harris doesn't, pick UK he is making a very bad mistake. BAMA already has back on their team as good as Harris and it will be years before he starts. At UK he will play next year plus be a hero to Kentucky and his family. If that means nothing to him then he needs to go to BAMA. If he is as good as advertised he will play wherever he goes but if he doesn't pick Kentucky he will always be the kid that turned his back on Kentucky just like Alexander. Agree or disagree, I have no need for such people.

Ok, have at it.
My thoughts exactly. I will feel used if he goes to that more southern state.

If Damien picks Bama,it will be hard to understand how he could bond with his Kentucky brothers like he did, become close with Mark Stoops and attend most of Kentucky's home games. Makes no sense at all.

Isn't that exactly what you just did to him in your post?

I care about UK.

If he goes to alabama he will fall into a shuffle at running back. SABAN probably won't allow him to speak for at least a year. At UK he is the man, around friends and family, and puts an actual stamp on a program. He will be a nobody at BAMA until sometime after his sophomore season.

If he goes to BAMA, I will be the first to forget him. Screw ill will; try no will.

If After all of this drama he disrespects UK by going else where. I will try hard to not be disrespectful but I sure as hell am not going to show him any respect. He can look for respect from whom ever he chooses.

Great post, I wish I could vote you up!! :)

Two years ago, UK was not even on his radar as an option. Now, this young man is making probably the most important and the most difficult decision in his life. I am greatful that he is considering UK strongly as the right place to continue his greatness. I will respect the decision he makes for HIS future, even if it is not UK. I ask all true UK football fans to join me in respecting Mr. Harris and his family Friday and let's hope he chooses to be a Cat. Please stay classy on this one.

Sadly, asking some to be "classy" about anything is asking way too much.

Lesson For Football Fans

First of all Harris is very likely Bama bound. So instead of spending the next several days trashing him or whatever, let's just appreciate our home grown KY kids who never waivered and were very proud to come to the University of Kentucky. Kids that are committed to changing the program. Let's move forward and appreciate the extremely talented KY men and other great players in the making we have on this team. I wish Mr. Harris the best. Now lets go get another running back. Let me tell you, Boom Williams is going to be a consistent game changer.

The kid is respectful, I have spoken with him. He deserves the same type of courtesy from grown men. I wish him well, and hope he plays here.

Harris is already a Kentucky Wildcat. This was sealed up last spring. When he makes it official here in a few minutes I hope all you haters and doubters eat that bowl of crow.
1 million percent Kentucky bound. GO BIG BLUE

Who are all of the "haters" that you refer to?

He is a great player and kid but EVERY great player in any state in any sport ALWAYS keeps his home state as a choice. My complaint is he spent so much time at UK so if he were going to Bama which I understand then why not sever ties way back. No he didnt just choose Bama either . Sure he has known for some time.

I won't be bitter or mean spirited to him, but at this point, he is now the enemy. I know we hang on Bama's junk for some reason, but they are the absolute enemy just like every other SEC team. We need to quit wishing them well, quit wishing their players well, and focus on beating them. Until we do that, we will never best them on the field.

But it's still not over, Stoops won't give up u til signing day, so we shall see.

Give it up for MSHS students for being classy enough to cheer.

I would have done an announcement a little differently (25 miles away from my state university where ~95% of those in attendance are likely fans of that school) to select a conference rival of said school, but again, I'm not 18. Chalk it up to lack of awareness, I guess.

Who?

I don't know him, and apparently he didn't know us.

Got the opposite of the lottery numbers for tonight?

This is the problem with Kentucky fans. We have been so crappy for so long and yet here we come running our mouth every year/recruitment/game.

The fact is, the only mouth running this fan base needs to do, is to the administration until they can see to it that this program does something that we haven't done in the past 30 years (while duke, vandy, kansas, North Carolina, etc. Have). And that's get to a winning conference record.
