Playing for the Sweet 16 BBN!

Not really understanding the reservation or mindset of losing. This team beat Duke with Jaxson Robinson playing as if he wasn't on the court. So the same team can't beat Illinois? The key yesterday was Xavier didn't have the frontcourt depth to handle Illinois. Illinois is going to give Kentucky wide open looks and it's there for the Cats to knock down. The "Crab Five" ran Illinois off the court a weekend ago but apparently a Kentucky team has 0 chance?

This isn't the '05 Illini or even the '24 Illini. Shocked by the negativity and reservation of a loss coming from BBN. I'll be shocked if the Cats don't win this game.

Thank you, sir. Always love to hear your takes!

I am so excited about this opportunity. Kind of taken aback at how this board has been taken over by negativity.

Some may not believe this, but I honestly think the team needs our positive vibes. Itā€™s like the old adage that if you think you can or think you canā€™tā€¦youā€™re right!

Fully aware I wonā€™t take the court on Sunday, but the power of big blue nation is no myth. The team feeds off of our energy and more than any team in a long time, THIS team has embraced playing for the whole state of Kentucky, and Cats fans everywhere.

Letā€™s stay positive and go get it!

Pure PTSD from the last coach.

That's been done for some time.

Just been an odd Postseason Vibe where fans have seemed afraid to fully invest in a new regime. Pope's crossed off a big need off his checklist-won an NCAA game. Better believe he felt some added pressure privately seeing that Cal and Young at BYU won their 1st Round games. That's done-he's set a great foundation and beginning to his tenure. He can now focus on the task at hand in a general manner rather than having something added attached.

These are also the games that a guy like Lamont Butler is brought in for-he's been in these environments and while the team didn't get a great game from him-he got back on the court and tomorrow his built for him to shine.

If you can beat Duke--and an actual elite Duke team which they are this year--you can beat Illinois in Milwaukee. Realize that it was early in the year--but you can't help when a game is scheduled. I'll say this-you beat them--Illini got run through like cowards and game wasn't in Cameron Indoor it was at MSG.

I respect Illinois and like Underwood as a HC--but this talk like the Cats are facing some unbeatable team is really weird.

Yesterday was maybe our "C" game at best. I would like to see us play our "A" game once in the tourney, and let the chips fall where they may. I think we were more scared of losing than excited about the chance to advance yesterday. Hopefully we play to win tomorrow.
Iā€™d call it a B-. 23/10 assist turnovers. 10 made threes. Time to kick it up a notch on Sunday.

When playing Duke, we were healthy. We now with Jax out, Butler not close to 50% and Amari is also hurted a lot...

I'm all positives here.

If we play anything close to what we are capable of, we should beat the pants off Illinois. I think Coach Pope will have us dialed in and the players ready and focused.

First game jitters are over now. We got a win. Multiple monkeys off the back.

Now go out there and play loose with house money. Have fun, make shots, kick a little tush and back on the bus for the sweet sixteen.

Go Big Blue!

I agree with this. First thing after game, Butler said to camera that coach got his first Tourney win so players were aware. Could very well have been a little tight.

Yeah, thatā€™s it. Itā€™s not that Illinois is some unmovable force - itā€™s that weā€™re not the same team that we were in December.

I think going forward Iā€™m going to look for futures bets on UK injuries. I know all fans think their team has it worse than everyone else when it comes to luck, injuries, officiating, everything. But it really does feel like we have buzzard luck when it comes to injuries

Yes, this season is what we have been waiting for. I will go into the game with high hopes expecting a win. I'll wait until we actually get beat to be temporarily miserable. Some people have the need to protect themselves by saying "We're going to lose. I told you so."

Back where we are supposed to be.

Refuse to entertain the thought of anything but a W šŸ˜.

Time for postmortems will come. Right now all of my energy is focused on willing us into the second weekend where we are supposed to be.

GO CATS
The thing that bothers me are all the fans down playing things if we lose. ā€œInjuries blah blahā€. You play the guys you have and like RD pointed out we beat duke with effectively no presence of Jaxon Robinson. Itā€™s abhorrent the fans who already have accepted a loss and pin it to injury. Thatā€™s not uk basketball. Weā€™ve lost lots of players in the past that may be a factor in the sweet 16 or elite 8 but shouldnā€™t be before it.

All due to health period. I truly believe we can win. I also truly believe Butler is at about 40%. That hurts big time. I

If Brea can knock down some shots, not doubt we can win the game.

The pressure if byu join ark in the s16. Uk fans are used to losing and excuses now so some have to make them like itā€™s a predetermined loss. Itā€™s a sickness bbn has developed bc of our AD hasnā€™t valued UK basketball the way our history has

Pope stated butler was healthy prior to the tournament nothing has changed. An example of the stuff being made up to comfort incase of loss. Amari isnā€™t injured either. I think Barney has some of his go to fans start these narratives to take the pressure off. Some of them post here. If we lose it wonā€™t be injury

Butler looked anything but healthy last game.

He looked a little rusty like a guy who hasnā€™t played much in the last month. I expect him to understand his abilities better next game. He was trying to do too much until pope reined him in and got him to play at the pace of the team. I never saw him wince or grab in pain. I donā€™t see a seriously injured player out there. It not a bogans situation the guy has an injury. Itā€™s probably painful but doesnā€™t prevent him from doing what we need him to do. Defend, distribute, provide leadership. If he couldnā€™t do those things pope wouldnā€™t have played him 25 min.

Super pumped for tomorrow. We haven't been in this spot it seems for ages. I fully expect a win tomorrow. I thought or D yesterday was spot on and the guys looked locked in. The body language was good and they were aggressive on both ends.

Letā€™s get this back on topic. Mitch Barnhart doesnā€™t play tomorrow. šŸ˜‚

Go Cats!
Yes he does. Everything he did last April plays tomorrow. This is his guy despite the fact he had no resume and if byu pulls this out that will look really bad especially when you look at their style of play compared under pope. Yes cal winning matters there is obviously something KAT took as slight toward cal from the guy who put all this in motion. His boy better get it done. Life is too short to keep losing early

Barneyā€™s unilateral decision for coach is on center stage to get us back to a sweet 16 for the first time in 6 years. After the terrible contract and robbing us of 6 years of March success we donā€™t need to go on a 7ths

These games don't work that way. These games are wars with the Kentucky across our chest it makes the other team 25% better. Hope we cruise to a win but don't remember the last time that happened.

I like the positivity. Iā€™m hopeful we can get this W tomorrow and punch our ticket to the Sweet 16!

But itā€™s March and if we donā€™t come ready to compete we will go home. Iā€™m worried with Butler not 100% and because we didnā€™t really play our best in the first round. We will need everybody to bring their ā€œAā€ game. If our guys arenā€™t focused and ready for a battle - ready to do the little things to win - it could mean defeat.

Illinois excels at rebounding and shoots a ton of threes, though they are not particularly good at making them. But when they are ā€œonā€from deep, that makes them tough to beat. We have to play balanced defense and make it hard for them to score. We gave up 10 offensive rebounds to Troy. We canā€™t give Illinois 2nd chances.

And of course, we canā€™t just gift them extra possessions by making unforced errors.

If we play hard and a donā€™t shoot ourselves in the foot, I think we win.

If we lose I hope itā€™s because Illinois just makes tough shots. Cant be too mad at that.

You know very well basketball is a game of matchups. Us beating Duke when we were healthy and they young, and then they beating an injured Illinois team doesnā€™t automatically in a win for us, Math properties donā€™t always apply. You still have to prepare the game in very details and have the boys ready from all points of view.

I love the enthusiasm. Hopefully our boys and staff can prove all bets are wrong,

Do we know if Illinois has Wilson balls before the NCAA tournament? The way the shoot the ball last game , they looked very comfortable with the Wilson and gym.

The media narrative surrounding this season wonā€™t be one we all like if BYU does indeed win. My hope was for BYU to lose early as well as Arkansas and we make it to the sweet 16. That would frame the narratives differently.

That being said, I think we come out tomorrow with our head a little more in the game. Bigger name school, better players and being the underdog. I am wondering how tired legs will affect shooting tomorrow. We shall find out in less than 24 hours.

oh yeah me neither. If fact, I was pulling for them. I just donā€™t want Pope to feel pressure from the media if we donā€™t win about his former team and our former coach making it further. Just more distraction than anything, which the media is known for.

I didn't say anything about time of year playing Duke--that would apply if we're talking about Duke again. What it showed is you had a team capable of winning against an elite team (young or not) and in a neutral setting. You went on road and won at Gonzaga, Tennessee, as well--and that matters.

This is Kentucky. There will be wide open shots--and this isn't a Xavier team relying on one big who was thought to be lost for the season earlier this year and can't defend. Illinois is capable--but this isn't any game to go in thinking there's a longshot. They aren't ****ing Alabama or UF or Auburn. Make Boswell be the guy to beat you and make open shots-you win the game.

I see your point. My concern is they shot the ball well and we didnā€™t . JR is out , Kriisa is out , Butler is banged up and cannot score, Brea has a piece on his shooting hand, Amari has back issuesā€¦..

In our last game we had to rely on Chandler and Noah to make shots. We are going to need Brea, AA, to step up. I know we can count on Amari , Carr and Oweh. Brea and AA plus the freshman have to play big.

Pope knows that too ! He sent AA , Perry and Noah at the pre game presser on purpose as a sign of confidence and to kill their butterflies before the game.

Kerr Kriisa is statistically one of the worst players to ever play in the NCAA Tournament. The numbers are there to be found-I've posted them before. He's been putrid. That's addition by subtraction. Robinson being out sucks--but this team has won without both in more hostile environments against better teams.

Flip side is winning with a C level game by 20 in the NCAA Tournament means you are due to have a B+ level game or higher tomorrow evening. I mean Illinois has lost to ****ing Nebraska this year. Maryland beat the living **** out of them with 5 guys dominating them. This isn't some force of awesomeness that can't be stopped. They are a good team and can win the game but this talk of Kentucky like they are a bunch of slapdicks is getting old to me. This team can win this game and IMO should no matter what.

Pope can take that "We're hurt" crap with him. If it takes pressure off the guys--fine. EVERYONE is dealing with something this time of year. I think Pope is way too nice with the defense of the players crap personally. Amari Williams is fine. He took a hard fall and was embarrassingly bad with close shots. Still played a decent game.

Butler will be ready to go tomorrow. This is why you come to Kentucky and this is stage you expect to be on and win.
