Pj Washington or Trey Lyles?

I think Lyles is more polished offensively than Washington at this same stage but Washington appears to be a lot better ball-handler and can attack the basket better. Lyles was money in his mid-range game but I just don't see him as good of an athlete. They are both PF's but Lyles is tilted more toward a 5 and Washington tilts more to a 3.

I think this is about right. Lyles was bigger, and had more scoring skill. His post and midrange games were very solid, and at many, many schools (probably most), he would have been a 5 who went for 15-18 ppg. When he played for Canadian junior national teams, he was their main interior scoring threat.

Washington is more athletic, and handles the ball better, but he's not the same kind of scorer around the basket.

PJ is much better player at this point in his career.
Recency bias.

Lyles was rated 12th in what turned out to be a really strong class. He flashed enough at UK to be taken 14th in the draft.

Washington might be as good, might even be better, but to say "much better" isn't a statement with any objective basis. I hope it's right, but I don't think it's realistic to say it right now.

Which player do you think is better and why?

Too early to tell. I haven't seen Washington play against a college team. High school allstar games are sorta worthless for judging how well a player will do in college. I think Washington is a better athlete; but, coming out of high school Lyles had better B-ball skills.

GBB!!!

Lyles since all we have seen from Washington was against high school competition. Lyles is now in the NBA so this isn't really a question
