Pitino to UNLV?

UL fans are no more married about Rick to UNLV than you guys are worried about Cal to Nets. With that said just like Cal someday he will leave. Might be next year and might be a few years down the road. When he leaves the UL job will be attractive to another coach. Top 4 job in pay coaching in the ACC is a sweet deal for some coach. Life goes on.
I'm assuming you meant "worried" right? Anyway, I would be surprised if the next UL coach will start out making as much as RP is making now unless it's some home run hire...and I don't see that happening if the NCAA brings the hammer down on the UL BB program.

Yep. Exactly. There are no pro teams. When Vegas basketball is winning, it's the talk of the town. Perfect way to ride out the last five to 10 years of a Hall of Fame career, being in a town where half the people don't hate your guts. Plus, I heard they are dangling "coach in waiting" status for Ricky II.

For a doctor you sure are a knuckle-head

Everybody on here (except the mod) has called you on this baloney

Give it up dude

I agree, no way they pay the next guy Rick's salary. UNLV will need casino money to match it.

I really wonder what big name would take it?

I can see a Little Miller and he would be a good hire. Cronin.

Otherwise no "name" coach would go there for these reasons:

NCAA sanctions are coming.
UL not an NBA feeder, top recruits do not consider them.
Cal and UK 60 miles away.
Duke, Indiana, and UNC jobs will be opening in the next few years.

Indiana fans, don't pay attention to Brian, he really meant Purdue or Butler but not IU and Tom Crean, it was just a type-o. Tom Crean will take IU to the Promised Land! I promise! :sunglasses:

But they can't afford to keep Pitino around either.
Why?

UofL exists in a protective bubble. All the fans care about is winning - they won't insist he leave, or even want him to leave. The local media guys, other than Rick Bozich, aren't going to say anything - if you're in a small media market, and your lifeblood is advertising dollars, and all the local businesses take direction from Jurich, you don't rock the boat.

They didn't get rid of Pitino for sex on a table and the related national scorn. They didn't care when ESPN, SI, and Fox went nuts with criticism over the Petrino hire. They don't care that the school Prez has embarrassed himself time and again, don't care about FBI investigations or AG actions or embezzlement or whatever. If all you have to worry about is CNN or USAToday being critical, you don't have any worries, because they'll be on to another story tomorrow and will forget about your troubles soon enough. ESPN was completely indignant about Petrino 2 years ago - not a word about it in the coverage of their bowl game.

Some guy on the UL board says this was a mistake and people got RP and Cal mixed up.

The real story is Cal met with Unlv brass and money guys like www last month in a top secret meeting.

Man glad that ul guy cleared all this up. I mean huge written stories in credible papers have talked about cal as a 120 million dollar coach and possible GM, but not one storie about a secret meeting in Vegas. But we have a guy on a rivals board who knows the truth, and he saves this incredible information for a message board. Lol amazing.

While in Vegas recently I saw a construction project underway. It was their new arena. Vegas in trying to land an NBA team. Not sure if UNLV will share the arena.

http://www.reviewjournal.com/business/arena-builder-takes-shot-landing-nba-las-vegas

The groundbreaking for Jackie Robinson’s $1.4 billion arena and hotel project on the Strip on Wednesday fueled talk that the National Basketball Association will have a team in Las Vegas one day.

“It’s like the ‘Field of Dreams.’ Build it, and the NBA will come,” said former NBA star Spencer Haywood, one of about 350 people who attended the ceremony for the $690 million, 22,000-seat retractable roof arena and 500-room nongaming hotel next to SLS Las Vegas on the Strip’s north end.

I asked my UL buddy who he realistically thought they'd get once Pitino was gone, his answer was Brad Stevens...

And why not?

It is Louisville btw.

Celtics are 2nd tier compared to the greatest commuter school of all time.

What's not to love?

A pristine reputation of ethics and morales.

No drugs or dead cheerleaders.

An easy opponent right down the road.

And never a hint of NCAA sanctions.

I'm surprised Phil Jackson hasn't applied.

Respectfully, I don't buy any of what you've said here....

Rick would be down the pecking order behind Tyson, Pretty Boy Floyd, the Busch brothers, Steffi Graf, Andre Agassi....

Just because we are CBB nuts in Kentucky doesn't mean the rest of the world, especially Vegas, gives a rat's patootie about an aging, sex-addicted sixty-year old hoops coach. Tark was a special case who had been there a loooooong time, was notorious for his fights with the NCAA and eventually cuffed enough talent to be nationally relevant. Moreover, Sinatra's dead--so is Sammy Davis Jr.

A carpetbagger like Rick would have an uphill slog to get to that level in the sports world in Vegas (or LA or Dallas or wherever) today. Nor would I be so sure people in Vegas (the rank and file folk who live there) would be at all dismissive of Rick's peccadillos. That is at its core a very conservative state, a red state, and shows no signs of becoming the socially-progressive place you suggest. Yeah, in the brothel, Rick would be "just another John" but the rest of the state isn't going to be so blind.

Next year Pitino will make 5 million dollars and the fired UNLV coach was making 700,000. No way Rick takes a pay cut like that, but whose to say UNLV wont give him the money. I agree in big cities college sports are usually more of an afterthought. And I think a young exciting coach would get them more excited in Vegas, but Pitino could win games out there. The west coast produces great talent, and UNLV has got 3 or 4 McDonalds AA in the last handful of years. Just seems them and alot of the west coast teams seem to underperform.

When Pitino leaves we will get a good coach. Will it be Brad Stevens? Considering his is about to lead the Celtics to the playoffs again I don't think he leaves anytime soon

Who can you get?

Cronin?

Archie?

Brad Stephens will use whatever Louisville offers him to get a similar offer from IU, UNC, or Duke when K leaves. Although something tells me Duke will stick with a K disciple.

It is not about the money at this point, Rick has money, it is about Rick taken control of his future before someone else does.

This is a hot topic on the Little Brother board Zipper and Senorita are lathered up..What will we do if ESCORTino leaves..:chairshot: better worry about the NCAA dweebs...the clock is ticking...[laughing]

He cannot respond any longer. But I doubt he knows the facts you stated. I also bet he doesn't know UL has more probation time than UK does.

True, and they are about to increase their lead in years on probation after they get hit for the hooker scandal. Not sure UofL fans realize that they have spent more years on basketball probation than UK has, and that more years are coming.

Guys, the IUT guy is an IU fan, not a U of L fan. He responded immediately after someone brought up IU.

Someone really good, unfortunately. Money talks, you know what walks, and they have a lot of money there.
If they cut p.rick loose w/out proving he knew about the whores/strippers, they'll be responsible for the remainder of his contract. I'm not sure they can afford to pay 2 top of the line basketball coaches at the same time.

They will work it out, especially if Rick is the one pushing to leave.

But who pray tell is that other top coach you reference in your post?

Prior to strippergate their next coach was Richard the Lesser. That was the deal between Joanne-Rick to Jurich as penance for her silence post Sypher. But strippergate and Richard the Lesser having failed has frankly allowed Jurich to drop that part of the deal. Now Pitino will have to beg in order to keep his own job and an heir apparent is apparently no longer....on the table, as it were.

I don't care if the Celtics had a worse record than the 76ers, Brad Stevens is never going to UL.

Brad Stevens?? LOLOL
You sound like every fan of every school in America. They all think Stevens is waiting for the job to open up. Especially IU, and I hate to tell you....but Indiana has a much better shot. UL will land some up and comer, decent guy, but not a homerun. You have to remember, UL isn't Duke, UNC, Kansas or Kentucky. You're NC State.

ESCORTino is beginning to lose it..Lashing out at press conferences...flipping off fans...his nutz are tightening up..This NCAA investigation will hammer Little Brother..there will be no mild penalties..He gets 1 Mickey D in 5 years of course uavel fans stick their heads in the sand..Just win Baaby..What a scummy slimy program..and losing 8 outta 9 to UK is driving them to distraction..Maybe Ricky just wants out..If Comb Over Ramsey gets canned the new President may actually want a clean program....

Dr.Lecter right on the money as usual..

This is awesome. Is it conjecture on your part, or do you know stuff behind the scenes?

There...fix that.

Sorry IU fans, some people don't realize how lucky you are to have Tom Crean...

Remember, you are talking about the most profitable program in all of college basketball.....[winking]

Maybe "Richard the Lesser" has been used before and I missed it. But, no matter, I spilt my drink when I saw it in your post.
