Pitino and UL Defiant-This will hurt UL

The interesting thing is that they are arguing that the collective penalties are excessive, so the NCAA could very easily reduce the years of probation, reduce the amount of funds lost, or reduce the lost scholarships, while still keep the vacation ruling, which I think is the most likely result (other than all of the penalties remaining intact).

The vacation ruling HAS to stay. Ineligible players played. So, title has to come down, and any money that was derived from those games. Done.

Yeah, unless they win the appeal, the banners from '12 and '13 are gone. Someone yesterday predicted they'd lose the banners but get them back on appeal, I don't know how likely that is. Where is the guy from Cincy who seems to know a good bit of the NCAA's workings?

It's amazing to listen to the people in this news conference. 37 times - they all agree, 37 times - the school paid for strippers and hookers. And they are shocked at these "excessive and unfair" penalties. Good grief.....

Somehow Jurich, Pitino and that entire Athletic Dept continues to make themselves look worse and worse.

"What, I didn't see anything on twitter so it doesn't count."

"It was just university-funded prostitution for under-age recruits and current players in an athletic dorm.... our small punishment was plenty punishment"

Rick really not helping his case. The more he talks the digger he's digging. Very defiant.
Punishment levied. It is not like the NCAA is going to say excuse me, we want to add more punishment since you are mad.

Louisville not even affected because the player they recruit is not serving any penalty.

Rick said he won't answer what he's responsible for. Why? Because he doesn't want to. He's not taking any blame folks.

Goes back to the culture that's become the UL way.

The University it's self has to look at the National reputation the Athletic Department has cast upon it.

Changes have to be made to the culture.

Bull hockey. No more punishment obviously but won't help their crusade they are now waging. UL not affected? Please. Spin it all you want.

When the institution that you work for has ZERO moral fortitude, why would he think he had to answer ANY question?

The Louisville media has NEVER held anyone at UofL accountable for ANY of their untoward behavior!!

Rick, Tom and Bobby work for a school that couldn't care less about RESPONSIBILITY!!

I agree, but they (UofL) is going to attack that hard. They are going to argue, as they just said, that because the dollar amount was so low (NCAA will say that the nature of the benefits here makes that irrelevant), that vacation is not appropriate because in similar cases players have been given the ability to rehabilitate and get their eligibility back.

But you don't get to participate while you are "trying to get your eligibility back". Ineligible means you are not allowed, not permitted, to participate.

This is the most insane press conference I've ever heard. Ever. They are literally saying they received too harsh of a punishment and whining about how unfair the NCAA was.

So basically they think the NCAA committed a bigger crime than they themselves did with hiring hookers for players for years. So yeah, wrap your head around that.

Now pitino saying Valvanos immune system was broken down by his own NCAA mess. Wow. Just wow. Basically blaming JVs death on it? Wow if so.

AMAZING!!

The gall of this self serving, egotistical, narcissist is unbelievable!!

So, now we go from Billy Minardi's(ironically who the Dorm that this all originated from was named after) death to Jim Valvano's death as a source of pity. WOW!!

c'mon...this lessens any appeal...

These people engaged in human trafficking and are now fighting tooth and nail for the sake of some basketball games. Let that sink in.
It's all very gross. Their behavior now trying to minimize their filth to save their tainted wins just highlights their immorality.

I agree, but Louisville is going to make the argument that this is too harsh (this number of games vacated) because, for example, if a recruit is given under 2k, he can pay that back to regain his eligibility. NCAA, on the other hand, has said from the very beginning that the nature of the benefits here is what makes this case different and this isn't just about dollar value.

LOL!!

UL shouldn't bother appealing then since they're "not even affected".

Question: will UL have a ceremony to bring down the banners?

The appeals committee has their hands tied.... because if a player is ruled ineligible.... its concrete. The appeals committee can be over ruled if they try and lessen the vacated wins penalties in this case because parties were ongoing... it wasnt just 1 party a player could regain eligibility for.... they'd have to regain eligibility multiple times over 5 years.
