pierre's agent plans to meet nc state

I don’t get it, why meet with him in Dallas if that’s the case. Something isn’t right.
Exactly! Pope keeps opting for face-to-face meetings with these players to try and sell them on Kentucky’s tradition and large platform and then seemingly if they aren’t (Dent or Yaxel) and they won’t commit on the spot for whatever NIL we are offering we move on. If a bidding war starts we run away as fast as possible. Lack of funds is the ONLY thing that makes sense unless Pope is delusional and honestly thinks he can get top level portal talent to sign for a big discount just because we are a massive brand. But Pope is brilliant so I refuse to consider that hypothesis.

Just spitballing - maybe there are some simple ways a coach could go negative on Pope to sway a kid.

- players to the league
- he’s a system guy not geared to showcase player specific talent
- decrease in minutes played (focus on analytics to decide impactful minutes)
- hasn’t landed top talent yet outside of KY
- for PG, he uses big man to initiate offense
- sub patterns are herky due to shortened minutes

Just a thought. If I’m Bruce or Hurley or Wade, I’d go after these points to devalue Kentucky and Pope. Offer similar money and could help a player decide.

Just playing DA. I love Mark.

Starting to be pretty amazing the number of top prospects we literally talk to and have to want, because of their stats and what they look like on camera, that do not jump at the opportunity. A big deal made of Pope flying to Dallas and talking to Pierre and not impressive enough to get a quick verbal like a lot of schools get and immediately goes running to another school that usually wraps them up on the spot. Nobody is going to pick NCST over UK unless it is money so if he commits to NCST we will know it is a money problem.
The kid from Georgia did that exact thing
Pope flew down there last Saturday, fans were told how great the visit went, he visits to UCONN & commits
has to be the $$$$$$$
either UK doesn't have any or they aren't offering it

I'm not sure why anyone thinks that Kentucky, one of the poorest states in the entire country, would be sitting on an enormous NIL cache of money. 🙄 🙄 🙄

In the SEC alone, we're probably only ahead of Mississippi and Louisiana...
and LSU has already taken a player that UK was supposedly interested in

I’m not privy to what’s actually happening behind the scenes, but kind of weird if that’s true. We all scold Barnhart for being behind the times and still trying to follow rules that no longer exist or at least are no longer enforced, but….. incentive based NIL is supposed to be illegal. Again, not saying I know for a fact that we didn’t attempt it. Just that it would be a pretty wild way to shoot ourselves in the foot after what’s happened the past few years.
wasn't this supposedly the reason Gwath stayed @ SDSU?

Still not convinced Mitch isn’t holding back on green lighting larger offers until this April 7th decision is made. Just doesn’t feel like a coincidence that we’ve had radio silence on any big names despite initial momentum. Seems like we are pumping the breaks to get the OK to close…which creates opportunities for others to swoop in and give a sure thing

Really unfortunate if that’s the case because no top player wants to wait around on an unknown when other teams are willing to pull the trigger under the current rule structure and figure the rest out later post any new rule change
Wade scares me. He is a crook.

Or maybe the players are just asking for too much money? If Oweh is making X amount, how do you basically "hire" an unknown for a higher salary? This has unfortunately become a business now and there's a lot they have to negotiate. I don't know that this is the problem at all, but it's as valid of a guess as all the others that are being thrown out there. I trust Pope to do what he needs to and refuse to jump to ridiculous conclusions that I don't know anything about.
if that is the case, then again, that is not a hard fix
just tell Oweh that after all of the dust has settled, you will be the highest paid
get the kids you want/need and then bump Oweh if needed
you don't have to be a brain surgeon to figure this out
anyone that has any type of business experience could handle that

No such thing now. Everything goes. Either get on board and play dirty or get out of the way. Seems like we are being led by a group of choirboys in a cut throat business. Our mediocrity will continue with this mindset.
all college sports are truly a business now, this free agency has destroyed it

If Mitch Barnhart is behind this , he deserves to get punched by every UK fan. Of course other AD's like him, the NCAA likes him because they beat his sorry ass because they'll do what it takes and moral oral here is taking it up the rear like a choir boy in Portugal

1. Uconn is the school that lured him into the portal.

2. We dont have ESPN recruiting for us.

3. I'm freaking amazed we got Lewis, they wanted him . They got Adams before Lewis committed but they knew Lewis was going to UK for months and had to pivot to Adams , those rich elite bastards dont like looking as if they missed on a recruit to hicks from kentucky.

I thought that the NIL money brought in had nothing to do with the university. Also whatever didn’t get spent rolls over to the next season. Maybe I understood this wrong, can’t figure out why anything would even need to go through Mitch. It’s not his money, he doesn’t benefit if we don’t spend it all does he? I’ve heard so many ways this works to this point Idk what to believe. Each sport have its own NIL fund or is it one big one all sports come out of?

have no clue about how the NIL is supposed to work or this april 7 date, but if there ways to avoid what ever it is, I'm sure that the big players are doing there best to get their shopping done before hand.

if barnhart is stopping things even though it is legal, just to be sure, then he has to go & stop strangling the goose that lays the goolden egg
Barnhart isn't aware of the verdict ( I am assuming) so why would he be holding things up. Don't get me wrong, I wish Barnhart was gone but, I can't see him being the reason for the lack of recruiting success so far. Players that were known targets have chosen to go elsewhere. It may be the recruiting pitch didn't resonate with any of our top targets, except for one. It is still early and I think we will be okay but it is becoming somewhat concerning for me.

If lack of $$ was the issue, why would Pope even waste his time recruiting the biggest fish in the portal? Those guys come with very large price tags and there is no going out of business sale pricing with these kids.

Something is definitely going on though. It'll be interesting to see if Pope starts getting commitments after the 7th.

Either way, if we miss out on too many more top targets, the BBN will not forget about it. Go 21-11 and get bounced early in both tournaments again, there will be some fans that will point to all these April misses and I can't say I would blame them.

And that’s why this is all vague and needs cleaned up in general.

But Mitch is still responsible for making sure the athletic department stays compliant with any rules; it’s why he was slow to embrace a UK collective.

NIL deals coming from brands wouldn’t need UK approval. But “booster money” may be under fire soon and if the boosters are associated with the University and are likely working alongside UK athletics and not functioning as rouge actors…they’ll do whatever the UK current administrative policy is.

Would love to get this kid!! Watched several of his vids last night. Reminds me of Oweh with better handles and much better shot.

Didn’t know uconn lured him.
So Hurley is a scum bag too

No sure things in any portal.

So right now some of our targets and their family’s are basically having steak dinners on Kentuckys dime, then signing with others schools, that’s no good!🙄
That's always been the case since recruiting started.

Yeah I somewhat agree, but we should be going all out at this point. Lawyers have always won these issues. Not too much a school can get in trouble for right now IMO. Playing it slow is painfully stupid right now.

The statement that we're waiting for that announcement, you could tell that 100% came from mitch. Its reactive all the way which is his mo. Meanwhile all the proactive programs are moving forward.

Branham said he doesn’t expect Kentuckys interest to be tangible as of right now

Tangible is an intentional term there. means money. So we're not putting money up. See above.

The cope is real right now with BBN. Some of the acolytes insist that we've only offered a few players.

You see, flying halfway across the country to meet with them in person, or zoom with them and sell them on the program, doesn't count as "offering them" until they receive an official offer.

Seems Pope and the gang are merely "kicking the tires" on all these kids who are saying no to them, eh?

Maybe NC State gets the agent and we get Pierre! lol

How much misinformation does Popes guys release out there I wonder. He we are gong after player x when actually they are closing the deal on player B. I mean did any of us know about Kam Williams before it came out 30 minutes before the news actually dropped?

Can I say nicely, Pierre doesn’t feel like a Pope guy to me.

Not that every kid has to be some honor roll, clean cut, high character guy. But I do think those type connect with Pope more and the first class of transfers were dominated by them.

Cool highlights but I would be shocked if he’s wearing blue and white next year until I see a change in who Pope brings in.
