pierre's agent plans to meet nc state

Still not convinced Mitch isn’t holding back on green lighting larger offers until this April 7th decision is made. Just doesn’t feel like a coincidence that we’ve had radio silence on any big names despite initial momentum. Seems like we are pumping the breaks to get the OK to close…which creates opportunities for others to swoop in and give a sure thing

Really unfortunate if that’s the case because no top player wants to wait around on an unknown when other teams are willing to pull the trigger under the current rule structure and figure the rest out later post any new rule change

If this is the case, mitch should be fired

You could be onto something. As long as Mitch is the AD we will never know what is going on.

Does mitch just want to wait after april 7th to save money? Wtf

have no clue about how the NIL is supposed to work or this april 7 date, but if there ways to avoid what ever it is, I'm sure that the big players are doing there best to get their shopping done before hand.

if barnhart is stopping things even though it is legal, just to be sure, then he has to go & stop strangling the goose that lays the goolden egg

Starting to be pretty amazing the number of top prospects we literally talk to and have to want, because of their stats and what they look like on camera, that do not jump at the opportunity. A big deal made of Pope flying to Dallas and talking to Pierre and not impressive enough to get a quick verbal like a lot of schools get and immediately goes running to another school that usually wraps them up on the spot. Nobody is going to pick NCST over UK unless it is money so if he commits to NCST we will know it is a money problem.

Was wondering how long it would take for us to get into a battle with Wade. An athletic department ran by holier-than-thou MB isn't equipped to go up against the cut throat sharks in this business. Time for new AD leadership in this new era. NC State will throw their entire NIL budget at Pierre and promise him the chance to be "the man". And it definitely appears like agents are playing UK and using the brand name for better deals. Can't blame them but it sucks.

If Mitch is truly gatekeeping Pope and his staff from spending money he needs to retire. I would rather it be Mitch doing it, than Pope being stingy.

In starting to agree and it feels like something he would do. If it’s true then he needs to go.

We will know it’s a Mitch problem, everyone has said the money is there. It just didn’t disappear.

Wade will land this guy.
Yep. We've backed off EVERY time it gets into a bidding war and I don't see this time being any different. Sucks because Pierre would do great here. Would like to see us fight it out and win one just to show we can but that will take new AD leadership that isn't afraid to spend and doesn't bow down to the SEC commissioner and other slicksters. I don't even get why we're still chasing guys that command a high price tag that we're not going to offer them.

I'm not sure why anyone thinks that Kentucky, one of the poorest states in the entire country, would be sitting on an enormous NIL cache of money. 🙄 🙄 🙄

In the SEC alone, we're probably only ahead of Mississippi and Louisiana...

Money is the only thing that makes sense as the problem right now. Maybe the reports of our big NIL is just wrong.
This isn’t my theory but it’s one I saw and it’s that these players want the money up front and Kentucky wants to make the NIL deals performance based and spread out the payments

It’s speculation in conjunction with the holding pattern comments. But the speculation is based on how Mitch has approached every other NIL intersection with the “wait and see, slow to accept” mentality and slant towards the side of conservative caution to not be in any future rules grey areas.

And the longer we go without any official news on the Robert Morris big man despite everyone saying it’s UK…the more it looks to validate the theory.

If we don’t hear officially from anyone worth more than a couple 100k before 7 April, then I’m going consider it hypothesis proven

I think pattern recognition has merit here with this. The more I think about it, the more I think it's an administration issue right now as well. Mitch needs to learn that his "wait and see, slow to accept" approach is hurting Kentucky rather than helping right now. That cannot be the perspective in the future, even after April 7th. Being stingy in this era is what will cost us with mediocre rosters. Unfortunately, most of the guys who know their worth want the bag.

Mitch doesn’t understand what is happening,…. He is playing it “safe”….

He is happy that BBN loves Pope, it doesn’t matter that he is not providing with resources necessary, so he is content with status quo. He is leading from behind because “wait and see” is the safest approach.

He is your typical career bureaucrat that kills the institution that he works for.

Especially if other programs are telling them “you need to get in before the deadline or we may not be able to match this same offer”…while we are telling them “be a silent commit and wait until the 7th so we know we are good to go forward with this offer”.

All speculation, but we have some past data points to know where our administration falls on the risk/reward chart and its alllll the way on the outlier end of the risk adverse side of the bell curve

I’m not privy to what’s actually happening behind the scenes, but kind of weird if that’s true. We all scold Barnhart for being behind the times and still trying to follow rules that no longer exist or at least are no longer enforced, but….. incentive based NIL is supposed to be illegal. Again, not saying I know for a fact that we didn’t attempt it. Just that it would be a pretty wild way to shoot ourselves in the foot after what’s happened the past few years.

Agreed. I mentioned in the other thread to imagine if you are a recruit right now in the portal.

"UK wants you. But we can't pay you in full right nor or we can't sign off on the offer until after the 7th"

Another school: "We can pay you the full bag right now."

I hate it, but most people would take the 2mil right now over a 500k cap after the 7th. (Not sure if its 500k or not just an example).

And what they are offering these kids in the millions are life changing money. So why miss out on 2mil right now? (Just an example)

Or maybe the players are just asking for too much money? If Oweh is making X amount, how do you basically "hire" an unknown for a higher salary? This has unfortunately become a business now and there's a lot they have to negotiate. I don't know that this is the problem at all, but it's as valid of a guess as all the others that are being thrown out there. I trust Pope to do what he needs to and refuse to jump to ridiculous conclusions that I don't know anything about.
