Piece on 6-7 WR Holtzclaw Visiting This Weekend

Listen to the tape of Shannon Dawson's presser on signing day. Coach Dawson understands that you beat press coverages and 2 deep zones by recruiting big strong receivers who have an advantage in physicality when the football goes in the air. Before he left, Neal was trying to do the same thing. You see it in this new class - Greenwood, Gosier, Richardson, Conrad. In Towles, we have a quarterback who will be able to deliver the football. Our offense will hit on all cylinders when the guys catching those passes are stronger and more skilled than the SEC players trying to defend against them in the secondary.

Yeep, if UK gets better players they are going to be better. Than again maybe not. What if we have UT type of coaching. I am pulling for Missouri type coaching but we do not know yet.

I think this staffs main claim to fame before coming here was their coaching, not their recruiting, but their recruiting is a tremendous bonus to me (a LOT more to sell than the previous staff or Brooks though), I think the coaching will be fine. The only exception to that might be Marrow, pretty inexperienced, but the way he recruits he is a tremendous plus no matter what-----and I am not saying he isn't a good coach. Tee probably wasn't a good coach, but he was a top 20 recruiter at USCw last year, which he probably would have never been at UK in the previous situation here.

I think the recruiting shows that the coaches can identify with and communicate with young players which should be a big plus in coaching them up. How many of the players this staff has brought in that we wanted have thrown in the towel in the two classes they have signed, top recruits dropping out early was an epidemic wth the last staff.

i think tee was wayyy overrated. he never brought in anyone that was a GOOD get. but i agree with the coaching. i never thought we'd get in the top 30 recruiting his first couple years. i thought the staff would develop talent and get some momentum and then recruiting would improve. but all these guys that are being brought in have the skill set to play in the sec. sure some need to add weight and get stronger or maybe improve speed a bit but used to be we got guys who had 1 attribute you wanted.... either big enough, fast enough, strong enough, skilled enough, or smart enough but not more than 1 or 2 out of those 5 things... now our guys are coming in with 4 out of 5 and basically just need a couple years of coaching...

Tee rated a top 20 recruiter last year at USCw, same with Marrow at UK, but a VAST difference in the tradition, talent available, support until recently, etc etc. What Marrow did here in 14 was unbelievable, and I think he will turn out to be a much better position coach.

They are all strong recruiters. Mainard is an outstanding position coach, and I am not worried at all about Marrow. From strictly a coaching standpoint, adding Buh should help. The offensive line is the position to watch for further development.
