Pick one player from each of the 5 coaches who’ve won a title at UK.

This is really hard seeing as I never saw so many great players pre-mid 80s. Mash, and AD are no brainers. As a kid I never paid much attention to stats, but from a pure enjoyment stance, I'd have to throw in either Rex, Davender, or Kenny. From everything I've ever heard, Issel is a no brainer. And it's impossible for me to pick between Louie and Ralph.

Curious as to reasons why people would take Wall over Davis for the Cal era? I don't think it's a stretch to say Davis was the best collegiate player ever to play for Kentucky.

This will somewhat depend on the kind of list. Is it each coach’s best player? Our favorite player from each coach’s tenure? Or are we building a team?
Issel, Davis, and Mashburn would headline any grouping. Conceivably the 3 best and most popular players to wear Blue and White.
From Hall, I would take Givens or Walker as the best but could live with Dirk for team building or Macy for popularity and/or team building.
Tubby had Prince and Bogens but I could take Rondo depending on who I picked from Joe B’s guys.

My reason is because the gap between Wall and other PGs other coaches coached is greater than Davis and other big men other coaches coached. You’ve got Nash, Issel, Bowie. It’s close though.

For PG what is there? Beard? Rondo? Macy?

Because of the lineup. I needed a bad ass pg.
Well, I get that. But it's just too hard for me to leave Davis off this list. I get that it's a preference, and plenty of good big men. But there's plenty of good PGs too. It's impossible for me to leave an All American, Player of the Year, and FF MVP off this list. Wall was good, but AD was generational. Dude got all those accolades without even coming close to taking the most shots on his team. Name me one other player, in history that's done that?

Issel
Givens
Mashburn
Rondo
Davis
As far as a lineup, this is spot on, IMO, as well as quite possibly taking the best of each coach.

Of course, as another poster pointed out, there are so many former UK greats you could spend a lifetime creating this list, lol, but SemperFiCat is correct: there's just no way you can leave Davis off ANY UK list, again, IMO.

C - Davis
PF - Bowie (pre-injury)
SF - Mashburn
SG - Prince
PG - Beard

I know that Prince at SG might be a little unorthodox, but I'd like to see this team play.
This team should have plenty of scoring to go along with 3 defensive stoppers (AD, Bowie, and Prince).

Yea but I took Groza who was just as decorated and dominant.

And Groza. I don’t think people realize how dominant he was.

For me, that falls into the category of "wasn't lucky enough to see them". I'm 40, and missed half of Kentucky's founding blocks of tradition.

You have to go by accomplishments. He one of our most accomplished players of all time at any position. Hell I’m 33.

Givens and Mash can/could shoot pretty dang well morg.

Oh yea. Well, I’ve got goose so that cancels that out. And I’ve got Prince for defense.

Then I’ve got Delk to drain it from the outside, Wall to create havoc, and Groza to dominate the rest. I don’t see room for Rondo

I admit, the "odd man out", if such can be the case here, would be Rondo, good point sir.

There are a lot of good ways to do this. I couldn’t not have Anthony Davis. Anytime someone does a thread like this I always build around him.

Davis is definitely the best Cal player. Heck, he might be the best ever.

But I find it hard to believe there has ever been a player as impactful and versatile on both ends than Davis. I scratch my head at anyone leaving Davis off this list or any all-time Kentucky list. Big men or on a general list.

Even taking position out of it, no other UK player in history was a consensus first team AA, National PotY, FF MVP (while hanging a banner), NBA 1st pick, and Olympic gold medalist. ...at 19. Leaving Davis off this this, I'll say it, is foolish.
