If he does Ole Miss will not win more than 5 conference games. STUPID decision on his part. You can't say he improved his situation at all. He should have stayed at UK if he was staying in SEC, lots of intangibles would have come his way as home state kid even if riding the bench. Don't see much advantage to him riding bench at Ole Miss. Dumb
I know NOTHING about Ole Miss’ roster, but it’s a pretty idiotic statement saying they will win less than 5 conference games if Perry plays 20 mins/game. With the right pieces around him he has potential to be a decent PG, and if he finds his shot he will make up for what he gives up on defense.
Those are BIG ifs. He's just not an SEC caliber PG right now. Can he be? Sure. But atm, he's not.
Good luck to him. Wish him the best (except when they play UK).

Not angry that he left, but I’m not supporting someone who left for an in-conference school. I’m not against him, but I’m certainly not going to support him. Showed he is more about the name Perry than the name Kentucky. Filtered out, good riddance.
Already been discussed. He also gave Askew 15mpg, 3 starts and he played 34 games in the 1 season under Beard. So, clearly Beard gave Askew an opportunity, which is exactly what Perry was looking for.
Yeah, everyone should put their needs in front of a university’s. That’s all he did.
He did, but he was either told or clearly saw he was unlikely to play much at all next season. I can’t blame him for wanting to play.
Not my point. My point is Beard has been known to make bad evaluations on players. Perry is a good shooter. He's not good at much else.

The same thing that happened with schools willing to grow some players over time and gradually provide more opportunity. They started taking shortcuts and bringing other guys in that already went through it somewhere else. I hate the system but it’s fair game both ways. If young guys don’t get minutes even at a step down then they can’t show somebody they deserve to move back up. Teams go to the portal generally to get guys that got minutes, productive minutes, somewhere else. Not someone who got mop ups or sat around and watched. Not much market value in that. And a kid like him isn’t ever going to be as athletic as the kids that are going to be brought in year after year.
I don't blame him either. But he went to a school where I just don't think he will do much better.
But shouldn't he have sort of known that when committing to Kentucky? He committed to Cal when we were adding 3 or 4 elite recruits every year who would for sure play ahead of him. Idk, just feel like none of this should be a surprise. But I do understand that NIL has changed things drastically since he committed to UK.
I’m a Kentucky fan so my support is specifically for a university. I get why he did it and I think it’s for the best for both sides. He chose to go inside the conference so good riddance

He is more of an overall good scorer and high IQ player. He certainly needs work on defense, and Beard is known as a tough minded defensive coach. If he wants to improve on that end, Beard is a better choice. Beard's defense can also help hide Perry a bit if needed.
Perry played, but he basically got thrown into a starting role he wasn't really prepped for ir expecting due to injuries. He had some nice games duing that stretch, too. But I think Perry and everyone else realized his opportunities were likely going to be limited again barring a similar injury situation.
He wanted a place he had a better opportunity to play this coming year with an expanded role, and likely wanted to improve weaknesses in his game, such as D. He probably found both at Ole Miss and more NIL as well. Seems like a win for everyone.
The young man did what he thought was best for his situation. Agree or disagree with it.

I'm fine with him making his own decisions. Just not sure I fully understand his choice. Which I don't have to; just not sure why he thinks Ole Miss is a better place for him in the same conference he struggled in previously.

Perry could be good in a system that runs a lot of zone. Offensively he is a good player I believe. Defense he’s terrible. A liability for a team like UK a team striving for top 5 status.
Perry was a GREAT HS player even though his dad was the coach. Heck, he's the leading scorer in KHSAA history. Now transitioning that to high D1 basketball is a HUGE step up. And it was apparent from his play last season that he is NOT ready to be a major contributor on this next season's team with all of the talent UK has now.
As far as his feelings about Pope, I just think he and his dad feel like Travis is a much better player than the way the UK coaching staff was using him or their lack of USING him. So they put feelers out and found that there were coaches interested in giving him a LARGER role. So now he's at Ole Miss. Which like I mentioned above is sort of shocking considering that he'll STILL have to compete against the athletes in the SEC.
But like @bookerfan66 stated above, it is interesting that Travis hasn't made a public statement about leaving UK yet either. So there could be some bad blood there. But I HIGHLY doubt there is any between Travis and Trent.
Color me skeptical. Beard is an ok coach. But he's not elite. At least not yet.

He does have a FF and an EE8, but he's not been the same dude since he left TT. He's made the second weekend once since 2018.
He's 44-24 at Ole Miss. I think this will be a defining year for him down there as well. This is his season to show he's a good fit for them too.

Beard is absolutely an elite coach. One of the best in the game no questions asked. Ole Miss is a dump and he’s got them in places they’ve never been. He killed it at TT. He would have killed it at Texas. He should be UK’s next coach if the background clears and Pope doesn’t work. The guy could easily have ole miss thinking final fours soon. He’s that good.
Will never understand this idea that he’s not elite. He’s been an overtime away from a title at a program bob knight himself couldn’t do. He also had an elite 8 there so was knocking on the door of multiple titles. These aren’t basketball schools and largely doormats. You give Beard Kansas and we have big problems.
Not a single person in Oxford thinks he’s not already shown he’s a good fit lol. What?
I was very happy that Indiana was yet again stupid when they had a chance to hire a great coach two years In a row now and passed it up for Darien Devries. He may end up being a good coach, but I think May and especially Beard were the hires to make.

I was worried about Beard to Indiana. I think Indiana isn’t worried about winning big anymore. Kentucky better get serious about keeping up, we need our next AD to be an attack dog. I’ll never understand this idea that you can’t hire a guy like Beard. Clearly you can and nobody cares. I have a grad degree from UK and I’m not embarrassed a bit by a coach with baggage. Has no relevance on my accomplishment nor the university itself. It’s an ego thing with some of these guys. “I’m too good” type of deal that only hurts the programs.
Beard at UK is titles. That’s what I care about. If he’s okay to hire at Ole Miss then who cares? Their background check obviously said good to go, so what’s different about UK?
Obviously guys like Pearl are so slimy I’d probably have reservations but Beard nah. No telling what really happened and it sounds like a 1 time thing.
Their whole school is holier than thou. They are too good for Beard in their minds. They do it the “right” way. Whatever that means. It’s some North Carolina shit.
Lineskicat14, Why would Perry or any athlete want to sit on the bench for their favorite school vs getting on the floor to play at any school. It would take an idiot or someone who was not competitive to take the bench option. Let's assume you played high school sports. If you did would you be happier sitting on the bench or would you ratther be at a school across town getting regular playing time. Next year and most likely every year someone on our team will hit the portal if they are recruited over and they see the hand writing that they are not going to get any playing time except blowout minutes. That is NOT a bad reflection on the kid because he wants to play, not be a damn cheer leader. But here we are, bad mouthing a kid for making a decision that he wants more playing time. If he was not going to get minutes here. He did not hurt our team by leaving, he helped himself. Now if one of our projected starters hit the portal late, it would create more issues but if they were getting a huge raise, how can you blame the kids. If you were offered double your salary tomorrow moring to move to another company doing exactly what you currently do, please tell me you would say no way I like my company too much to benefit my family.

He will probably end up the next coach at Kansas and we have real problems. No I don’t have any idea what you’re talking about. He’s elite but not a legend yet. He’s young.
Sports is about way more than rooting for your team.
A guy that wasn't gonna be playing upset you by leaving so you hope he fails.. I'm not rooting for the dude to be great but I can't understand being mad at him
There’s no way in hell Perry will fetch that kind of money.
