May have been better than any of this year's team. Couldn't believe my ears. He was talking to Bob Valvano about UL, and they were talking about how there are no great teams this season. Then he said that about Bilas. I have a hard time believing Bilas really thinks that though.

Bilas has said UK, Wisconsin, Duke, Zona and maybe even UL last year were better than any one team this year. Frankly I can't even remember last year's UL team. Seriously.

UL last year, before they lost Chris Jones, was pretty good. Of course, UK beat them at the YUM even with him, but the Cats did that to a bunch of teams. But to say they were better than ANY team this season? That's doubtful.

Now, give me UL mid-January, before Jones is kicked off the team, and all this season's teams in November, then maybe. But this year's teams haven't been through conference play yet. Some of these teams haven't played ANYBODY yet, so we really don't know yet. But I can guarantee some team will improve and become dominant. It happens every year. UK could be that team. There are other candidates as well.

Last year's U of L team was a dumpster fire. Several players were out for themselves. That's what happens when you convince Montrezl Harrell to come back to improve his stock and he sees real quick he's getting the Russ Smith treatment.

Well to be fair, he never said last year's uofl team was good...he basically is saying no teams this year are.

That's going a little far. I'm sure he doesn't think that no teams are "good". Great I will grant you, but there are plenty of really good teams. These things start taking on a life of their own. An argument gets made about there not being any great teams, which may be true, and then it starts snowballing and before you know it, it becomes every team stinks and couldn't beat any FFs from last season. Sort of like the 1996 team. As great as they were, it has become almost an urban legend that they were good enough to compete in the NBA, or that no UK team since comes close to them. It gets a little ridiculous. They did lose 2 games after all.

OTIS ha, bilas is an idiot:chairshot:

That team was terrible on offense. But anyway, sucks for them I guess.. Tough break before they head into probation.

I'm starting to think Jay is on drugs, his attitude and opinions have been a complete turnaround from previous years and his usual fair and balanced words have become biased and error filled.I think UK beating Duke like a drum early flipped his wig

I've heard Bilas make that point 2 or 3 times, he always gives a list of teams from last year that are better than any team from this year, and Louisville wasn't on that list any time I've heard him say it. Maybe at another time he did include Louisville, or maybe Fraschilla is just not recalling right.

I am not sure I agree with the UL statement, but I said, after the first week of the season, that last year's UK team would have cake-walked to 40-0. This year does not have any teams near the top 4-5 of last year.

Bilas' point was that this year's field was very weak. I think he just threw UofL in there for shock value.

I think the top three teams from last year were the outlier, not this year. Look at the Final Fours since Cal got here. 2010: Duke was the only one seed. 2011: UConn was the highest seeded team (3rd). 2012: UK was the only one seed. 2013: 1-4-4-9. 2014: 1-2-7-8. 2015: 1-1-1-4.

Bilas has been using double-speak and backhanded jabs for years at UK and simultaneously being a dookie homer with a clear pro-Duke agenda but most people didn't see through him. He's just being more obvious now.

The champion last year was going to be either UK, Duke, or Wisconsin. Zona was just a notch below. Then there was a chunk of good teams lower down the list. UVA with Anderson might have been a little bit above that group, but fell back with the pack with his injury. UVA, KU, ND, Zaga, and Nova were in that group. The top teams this year would probably be right there with those teams.
