The staff has been working with these 3 after practices this week . I’m wondering (depending on the oline’s performance against Miss St.) and heading into a bye week , if they are getting these guys ready to play the second half of the season. If we lose to Miss St. we may as well start developing these guys for next year imo.

Why did it take them half the season to begin this?

Why would we imagine these guys would be better?

I agree that Wohlbaugh is as bad as I've seen in a while under Stoops....and I thought Deandre BUford played circles around what Wohlbaugh has shown.

The coaches see these guys in practice every day, if the backups are worse the what we are putting out there we are still the Big Blue Wall but the wall is a Swiss cheese wall, too many holes.

Well these are true freshman that , evidently the coaches didn’t expect to be needed for the offense THIS year . I know that Goodwin has already burned his redshirt by playing on special teams . Don’t know about the other two .

I am just happy to see they are trying to develop kids during the season, one of my beefs with our staffs in the past is that sometimes they were too loyal to older players- not that that is a bad thing certainly but it can be

Because if they’re not better than what we have, why burn a redshirt?
That's valid but Rodriguez red shirted last year, Goodwin's on the XP/FG units so he's already burned his red shirt. Only Hall hasn't played. Goodwin/Hall are probably OTs, Rodriguez an OG.

I don’t think I realized Goodwin had been playing. Only thing I can think of is that maybe the other guys are just as good or better right now.

I’d also say, Stoops has earned the benefit of the doubt when it comes to playing the best guys. He’s got two true freshman playing WR right now and basically benches Smoke for Wallace. I really believe if the other kids were better he’d play them.

Stoops does not pick the starter at each position. He allows the coach of that unit to decide for the most part. Now if said unit is underperforming he will get involved. Smoke for Wallace ? Are you meaning Wright?

still think it is a scheme thing and not a talent thing.

We are trying to run an NFL level line scheme with kids fresh from high school

2 SRs
2 JRs
1 RFR

That's excellent age for an OL. Far from "fresh out of HS". Perhaps they weren't recruited for the scheme and that's part of the problem..?

Love how people were complaining the last OL coach never rotated players in to get experience and this clown is doing the exact same thing.
They blame him because they don’t like the way he left. Manning played at auburn last year and looks just as lost. As everybody else

I honestly don’t think it matters because I feel Yenser is the problem. He came out this week and said that our biggest problem was losing one on one battles which feels like deflection to me; can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen a DE come untouched or the failure to pick up a basic stunt. I understand some of these guys are young and will have growing pains but there’s no reason for them to play this poorly other than coaching.

They aren't young as a group. 4 upperclassmen. 1-2nd year guy. That's good age for an OL. Line play will drive ya mad.

I heard that and cringed. They are having major problems with stunts and 1 on 1. I don't Yenser is doing a very good job. These guys look lost at times.

It's gotten so bad that I'm not against trying this.

I‘m not so sure about this . Yenser has to run the blocking scheme his OC tells him to run . He’s also not going to come out and say “well the scheme we are running is too complicated “ or “we are trying to run something our personnel is not suited for” . It’s pretty obvious to me that it is definitely on Scan OR Yenser OR both . I’m just not sure which one . On paper, we have the highest rated group of Olinemen we’ve ever had . We DID NOT miss on every one of these guys .

It’s clear something is broken, a good coach finds a way to succeed even if there’s a lack of experience (I refuse to believe we have a lack of talent). I know nothing about blocking, but seems like you can simplify things to take a step forward.
